Hey guys...

Chill.

Don't start hammering a journalist/reviewer until you know for sure what the facts are.

You do realize this thread was all started from a PICTURE right???

And a picture that doesn't even match Gamespot design guidelines (nor does it look professionally designed at all...).

No link. No article. No anything.

I doubt the game is anything less than stellar and any reviewer who trashes an obviously great game has accountability.

Seems like a trollish thread.

Not many take Gamespot seriously these days. But even they aren't stupid enough to cut a games true score by 50%.

I'm literally shocked this tread received any traction.

I guess Wii U owners are do used to bad news that auto-defense mode is on all the time.

While not a review at the time, IGN did a preview a short while ago and they were drooling over themselves with praise for the game.

If it elicits that response, even the most ardent hate-reviewer/bribe-receiver would be glhard pressed to go far in their contradiction.

In the preview he said "Every moment I spent playing Tropical Freeze was incredible fun", and the rest of the preview was spent talking about how much and why he wanted Rare to make another game. So this 5/10 seems wrong.

So it turned out to be 6/10, and the "bads" were: 1) "Dull, derivative level design" (basically the opposite of what every other reviewer is saying) 2) "Employs some cheap and frustrating platforming tricks", which means, if you read the review, that you can't just rush through the levels à la Rayman or other "modern" 2D platformers, but actually have to stop and think/change your strategy. 3) "Harsh checkpoints during boss battles"(!) Well, I shouldn't even comment on that. But... no, I won't.

I haven't played the game, but this review is bad. For another review, on the other end of the negative/positive scale, which I actually felt was informative, see GameXplain, who says it's the best Wii U game so far:

Great job by Gameexplain!  And saying it's the best Wii U game is a pretty lofty statement, but it's great to see.

I hope everyone knows now that DKCTF didn't get that 5/10. It got a 6/10. Just out of curiosity, didn't ALBW get an 8.5/10 and people praised GameSpot? Maybe the reviewer saw the light and saw ALBW as truly amazing, but it's still something to think about.

I never really paid much attention to reviews, for video games or movies.  To me reviewers of movies and video games or people with nothing better to do with their lives.  I only listen to reviews of hardware type of things.

That game was done by a different reviewer. We're talking about Tom McShea who's known to post controversial scores.

EDIT: Whoops, it wasn't McShea that did the review, my bad. Anyways, things like these make me glad I left GameSpot a while back.

I don't tend to trust reviews as much as I used to. User reviews seem to reflect a game's worth more accurately.

I always presume they either cater to what users want them to say, or they go with what they are paid to say.

User reviews are much better than someone who is playing on a deadline anyway.

I dont give a f* about gamespot, since Navarro and Gerstmann are not there anymore, i dont have any interest about them.

The site only site i respect is GiantBomb.

And for me DK franchise is in the best shape, i like much more the work of Retro than the DK of Rare.

Right now Retro is like the perfect developer for me....

I grew up reading game reviews in magazines so I trust them much more than online sites.

Watch youtube reviews, much better and you probably hear some truths about the game.

Just a reminder that they gave Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon a 6/10 as well. Because "the combat was too difficult" and "there weren't enough checkpoints". Best to ignore them when their biggest complaints are invalid or because they're too casual.

Based on that review, Gamespot literally is a bunch of prissy casuals if they gave the exact same game a score of 5/10.
