Wind waker Hd... But you probably played this game 15 times over before it came out.
These are technically open world:
Ac4
Lego city
Great ones? None.
Although you can play Wii games on the wii u, which opens a lot of dooes for fantastic open world adventure games.

Lego City was a blast to play/ Wel written and the gameplay was fun.
Had some great missions and one hell of an epic ending missions and amazing music.
Will have a lot of Adult Movie & TV show references you may not get esp since most are 30-40 years old.
WWHD best Zelda ever IMO

Darksiders 2, I really enjoyed the Wii U version.
Not played the Wii U version. Got the 360 CE when it came out but yeah the game is excellent. Love the series. basically M Rated Zelda.
Gray Ginther did some of the artwork for those games and also did the artwork for Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Shame we will never get a conclusion to the series. Unless Nordic can pull a strider.

Maybe Nintendo can pull a bayonetta? I never played the two series myself, but I believe Dark Siders has more of a audiance, and is defiantly the titles a lot of people want to see on the wii u.

all i can think of is AC4 and 3. 4>3. and id recemend it if you havent played the other 4-5 AC games. if you have, then its more of the same except for the ship mechanic.
heard lego city was openworld.
legend of zelda technically is, but i would call it a bunch of places on a massively oversized hub world.

How is that different from an "open world?"

How is that different from an "open world?"
It seems superfluos at first glance, and can indeed be difficult to articulate even for those who notice the difference... But its actually a surprisingly big difference, that has a huge impact on the overall feel of the game through progression design.
To help better articulate the levels of game design from linear to open world, the six point sliding scale of linear to open world was created.
Zelda like metroid, is typically a 3-4 on this scale, as you are in a big world you can go wherever your current abilities allow you to go, and while there are a whole wealth of side things you can do at your own agency, the game has a set 'path' the player is meant to 'discover' typically in a certain order, to progress the game.
This means the game is inherently more linear than open world rpg's lime skyrim (level 5) , However the tradeoff is that, the games design, and focus can be honed to a razor sharp focus to deliver an exciting experience that is just unmatchable in open world games because of their design conventions.... But... It really only works its 'magic' the first time its experienced, and only if it suitably manages to 'hide' its path just right.
Currently, Zelda and metroids are in danger of slipping from 3-4's, down to 2. Which is bad. But just AS bad, would be going to far into 5 territory, its a very hard balance to mantain.

What would rank a 6?
