Due to release next year these new "Archival Discs" will hold 300GB and up to 1TB. Next gen Playstation digital only? Not so sure.

They're called archival because they (most likely) will have terrible read and/or write speeds.

Blu Ray did at first too, now they run 6x but the benefit of holding so much more data paid off in the end. 4k is an obvious reason for these new discs.

Think these been around a while or maybe I am thinking of the 300GB holodiscs. This is good for devs as they will tell you even if a game is 10GB in size it took several terabytes of data to develop it.  Even when making trailers for games took hundreds of GB's of footage to widdle down. This would be easier than transfering HDD around.

As for PS5. I woul dnot doubt it as PS5 maybe a 4k Gaming machine and that obviously takes much more data.

Wow, it seems far off that games will need that much data. Who knows, though. Technology moves quickly.

Cool, now they can make a game that will take a year real time to complete. That would rule.

^ Panasonic has made and manufactured Nintendo Optical Discs and drives since Gamecube.

Also it was Phillips who did CDi. Panasonic was one of the licensed companies to produce 3D0 systems from 3D0 themselves.

Lack of space isn't the reason why there's no game that takes a year of real time to complete.
