Give the series back to Iga.

I'm actually really glad this bombed. I hated this sub-series so much, I hope this sends some kind of shock back to Japan to get their rainbow together.

Be wary, the suck is coming.

I hope all Castlevania games continue to bomb until they finally make a Symphony of the Night sequel or another 2D game that a decent human being can play without shame.

It's sad to say, but Mirror of Fate is the best out of the trilogy. This reboot failed in tons of way, but damn the art style is perfect for the series. I think they should take Mirror of Fate as a basic blueprint for how to continue the series. Side scrolling, great art, decent enemies (not enough kinds), deeper combat, and RPG elements. If they would refine it then I think they'd have something awesome on their hands.

LOVED the first game. Returned the series back to gothic and horror like CV 1-4 and 4 still the best. The SoTN style games were fun but really hated they got away from the gothic horror roots and went glam rock. I still enjoyed them and really enjoyed Curse of Darkness and Lament.

Mirror of Fate was ok but fell short and LOS2 seemed to lost a lot of what made the first so damn good. No it didn;t rip off GOW either as GOW ripped off Lament. Tho yes borrowed from SotC.

Iga ran it dry with that formula and would like to see the series be back to the 8-16 bit era style.

Pretty much my thoughts on the series as a whole. Iga brought way too much anime and Japanization in general to the games. Don't get me wrong, I love Japan and I love anime. But castlevania is based on European mythology and lore, and the series looks amazing when the people making the games fully understand and appreciate that material.

I miss Ayami Kojima's art the most :(. I felt her art and character design was one of the most important parts of Castlevania. Much like Yoji Shinkawa to Metal gear solid.

Her art is okay, but it just doesn't fit with the material.

I couldn't disagree more, It gave it personailty. It is a very unique gothic style that made the series stand out, well at least for me.

When they switched to straight up anime design for Dawn of Sorrow / Portrait of Ruin / Judgement and Order of Ecclesia I agree with you.

It gave it personality, but not the right kind. It was way too feminine.

It's hard to make a 2.5D game look good, especially in HD.  If you're used to quality hand-drawn art, those background textures ain't gonna fool anyone.  Also, Castlevania needs a real soundtrack instead of the ambient garbage.  In other words, I have little hope.

first one wasn't great.

It's just not "fun" to play. A shame too. Had wanted a proper Castlevania brought into proper 3D. these guys need to consult with Rocksteady (though not copy)

I felt complete disconnected from the first. Didn't care to about the characters or story at all. No incentive to keep playing.

They did get the "look and feel" right. But that was it.

Was frustrating to play with the controls and shifting mechanics.

did not play the second, but most say its worse.

So not surprised.

The femininity of the art never bothered me. Japan is known for being a bit more feminine than the rest of the world so it fit perfect. To me Castlevania will always be a Japanese take on the idea of Dracula and Ayami's art style executed that flawlessly in a unique, fresh and yet still authentically japanese way.

For a wider world appeal your right though, I can see how it does not appeal to everybody accross the globe.

Really surprised it did so bad. And the game came out on 2 consoles...
