Hi, first time poster. It's possible this topic exists already but I've tried searching numerous times and keep getting an 'error' screen so, exasperatedly, I'm starting this.

My Wii U & Pro controller (official, I might add) are only three months old and receive light/moderate use. I was watching my son play SM3DW earlier today - he was using the Pro controller, the gamepad was not in use . After about an hour we suddenly got the on screen message 'communications with the controller have been interrupted'. The console then inexplicably shut down. Scratching my head, I rebooted. Everything appeared to be okay, navigation with the gamepad was fine but as soon as a button was pressed on the Pro controller the console turned off again. Perplexed, I unplugged the console from the mains for a few minutes, tried again, same result. I checked the charge level of the Pro controller and it's nearly full. I currently have it plugged in to the console to boost the charge and, strangely, it seems okay while plugged in. Hopefully, it's just a hiccup but my faith in the reliability of Ninty hardware has wavered slightly.

I really am at a loss to explain this as everything has always worked perfectly up till now. Has anyone else had this issue & can suggest a possible cause/solution? Thanks :)

Never heard of that one.  I'd try to sync it up again.  If that doesn't do it, remove the battery pack for 15-20min, then resync it.  Next step is to call nintendo and tell 'em you caught a dud.  My pro controller(official as well) has been kickin' for a year and a half now and not seen any issues with it.  Nor have I heard of this from any of my friends with them.

Thanks for the reply. Ignore for a second what I said about the charge level of the controller - would the controller losing it's charge (ie. dead) cause the console to shut down? I would've thought the controller would just stop working but I don't know for sure. Reason I ask is because when I plugged it in it seemed to take far longer to reach full charge than I would've expected. Also, there's no way I've been getting anything like the claimed 80+ hours play time from my Pro controller. Does it lose charge when not in use? My PS3 controllers seem to stay charged even after long periods of inactivity.

Anyway, after charging it fully up last night I tried it again (unplugged) and it seemed okay again. I'll see how it goes.

One thing I did notice yesterday - that I've never noticed before - is that immediately after every shutdown the power led on my console went orange for about a minute. Did it again this morning (after shutting down normally this time). Is there any significance to this? Like I said, never noticed it before (and I would have, believe me).

Thanks again.

Odd as I had mine over 4 months charged it twice and used it heavily and still the charge was only down two bars. Think your controller is faulty. My only guess is not only is it having trouble giving a signla but the power button maybe sticking a little.

Thanks for the reply. What's baffling me is why the console was shutting down. Is that a normal consequence of a loss of signal between the console and a Pro controller, or of the controller losing power? I only got the "communications have been interrupted" message the first time it happened. On subsequent tests the console just turned straight off. Very, very bizarre. Like I said, up to that point never a problem.

I think I'll have to get the controller checked out (though it's working normally again now). Thanks for the help, guys. Nice forum.

:)
