I added a WiiU to our household this past Christmas and moved the Wii to another location where it still gets a lot of use.  I have two kids that are regular users as well as myself and my wife.  Is there a recommendation as to the best way to manage users across the consoles, specifically the Miis?  While it would be nice, it's not as critical that game progress, details etc be available in both locations.  More important is how you handle the Mii situations?  Same Mii in both places or new Mii?  If same - how?  Add to this that both of my kids have 3DS units as well.

I've seen parts of this question asked but could not locate a complete answer or recommendation.

Thank you.

You can just recreate the Mii's. Unfortantly Nintendo is very good at connecting all that stuff together, they didn't create the wii with any of that in mind.

I simply downloaded my Mii from the 3Ds on the WiiU. I'm not sure if the same thing is possible between Wii and u but i vaguely recall the possibily to save a Mii that isn't yours on your console.

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

does carrying them from one to the other also keep them in sync or are you really just operating independently from each?  Both the Wii and the Wii U will be used.  If they wouldn't stay in sync anyway, is there any advantage to copying it over?

How often do you change Miis? That being said, I think you can keep them in the wiimotes, but I don't know if that's still supported.

It's more about my kids than myself.  I will likely play on the Wii U almost exclusively.  They will bounce back and forth between the Wii U and the basement, where the other one is.  If it is easy to use the same Mii in both places as well as to retain game progress across the two - great.  If not, they will likely want to start a progress based game in the room where they will want to play it most of the time.  You'd think this would be easy.

The WiiU is the only console that uses Mii's for things like storing progress, that's because your Mii is coupled woth your NNID. Mii's on the Wii and 3Ds are only astetics, they're avatars that can be used in a handfull of games but it doesn't save game progress with the exception of the Wii Fit and Sports games.

Nintendo works woth a console based account system, this means that each console is/has it's own account. Would they have had a user based acvount system then it would've been possible to have the same account on multiple console/handhelds

Gotcha.  so it sounds like I should just treat them as separate.  A Mii, game progress etc tied to each console.

The X-Box has never been very good at this either.  I wouldn't know about the new One but I found that progress and similar were a real pain to use or even move across consoles.  The PS3, and now the PS4 was pretty good at it as they did take a network friendly approach.  Still not perfect but I think Sony is the closest.  Apps syncing cleanly (and transparently across iOS and OSX via iCloud has me spoiled.  I'd think the game systems would have that ironed out.

Even Steam isn't perfect.
