So is it just me or are others concerned by the complete lack of advertising Nintendo does for the Wii U? Granted I am an adult and do not watch "young peoples" TV Nick, Cartoon Network (minus Adult Swim) but shouldn't they be pumping some cash into ads? I can't count how many Titanfall, Second Son, Watchdogs, PS4, Xbox One commercials I saw during the Walking Dead finale on Sunday. You would think that with Mario Kart around the corner they would be hyping it big time. I don't think I saw a single DK commercial ever and maybe one or two for SM 3D world and that 3DS Zelda game. Granted Nintendo has that Family Friendly reputation going for them but I would say for the most part those who are on the fence for a new console see the other two choices non stop and if I wasn't going to buy a Wii U (which I did a few weeks back, not because of any ads, but for the Nintendo IPs and the hope of a Zelda U and Metroid U) I would have gone with one of the other ones. Maybe once we get a few weeks away from Mario Karts launch they may start an aggressive Ad campaign but right now the lack of buzz is scary.

That's how it's been for quite some time. And the only time I see an ad for Nintendo products is on nickelodeon while I'm watching Spongebob. They would make a ton if they ran ads during major events like the Walking Dead finale

They just need better commercials that could target the older and younger audiences for different channels imo.

The wii had tons of advertising. It was clever too. Heck, it was even cool.

Then.. This.

Iwata revealed his philosophy early on and it was ominous.

They created a good system. And they're helping certain clueless third parties kill it.

Part of the third party and retail game is advertising. Marketing. Ms and Sony do tons of that and third parties benefit "for free"

That helps the "business case" quite a bit for third parties to trust efforts are being made to sell. And most retailers actually have a marketing plan required of you to partner with them in selling your wares.

Nintendo is a huge corp. but Iwata has them acting like a mom and pop shop working out of the garage.

That's the problem with the "protect and save" philosophy.

It's all about conservation and preservation. Which means you shut things down. Do everything smaller. And ultimately lose. Just a little at a time. But dwindle nonetheless.

There is no reward without risk. And Iwata has chosen not to risk.

Though he made perceived bold moves with the wii, in reality it was a conservation move. Old tech and limited expense. True, it ushered in a bold new miyamoto control scheme, it was a move that could afford to fail without any impact.

It was fortunate to be a runaway success.

But Iwata is showing a pattern here.

Here's hoping he wishes up before he gets the boot.

Surely Yamauchi must have instilled some of that fire in him at some point.

I think the last Wii U ad I saw was around Xmas time where it was some kids trying to convince their parents to buy the console. Is this the right approach Nintendo should take when running any ads?

Nintendo is too cheap to put together an expensive advertising team.

True, and realistically there's no point in us talking about it at this point. It's not as if Nintendo execs follow this board. Besides, it's been said to death, by everybody.
