Coming from a Jools Watsham AMA on Reddit that is live right now!

Why the game switched from 3DS to Wii U

There were a number of factors that contributed to our decision to move Cult County to home console/computers. The first was the scope of the town, story, and character interactions we were developing through the design of the game. It started to feel like it would be expressed better with more graphical power.

Another aspect is the fact that we're releasing Moon Chronicles on the 3DS very soon, and as it is the first of its kind on the 3DS we have no idea how well (or unwell) it may be received on that platform.

And, finally, the idea of developing Cult County on Unity for multiple platforms is a very exciting prospect for us. The Unity engine is really great, and offers wonderful flexibility and power. Being able to develop (essentially) one game and be able to release it on multiple platforms has huge potential for the number of players who can get their hands on our game.

On comparisons to Dementium

Dementium was limited in gameplay in many ways due to the platform it was developed for. That is no slant against the DS or Dementium; I love both of them! But, the reality is that implementing a crouch or jump (like we did with Dementium II) was not an ideal situation with the limited buttons that the player could comfortably access.

Cult County takes the gameplay elements that worked with our handheld FPS games and adds a whole new layer of "modern" first-person controls and game design so that it matches player expectations of console first-person gaming today.

On control options

Yes, Wiimote / Nunchuck controls will be supported for Wii U. All control methods will be explored, and if they feel good we'll include them.

Story details

We have the story of the first season and beyond all detailed out with key plot points and character roles, etc. It is primarily a "lone journey", but you will engage in relationships with other characters along your journey - both friend and foe. And, you'll soon wonder who can be trusted?

Shame the game won't be hitting the 3DS. Ah, well. Can't wait to see how this turns out, in any case.
