I thought I'd try to speculate about what Nintendo might do, based on their past and present.

Price range: $250-300. The Wii U proved that $350 is too much for the general public to swallow. The Wii was about $250 and practically flew off of the shelves. Any lower would incur too many compromises for the console to be enjoyable.

Performance: Improved but not shockingly. At the bare minimum I can see Nintendo taking what they learned from developing for the Wii U and addressing any bottlenecks they have found. My assumption is that the possible maximum would be just enough that, for example, Mario Kart 9(10?) is 1080p with six racers (two on gamepads)

Optional 2.5" internal hard drive: Most consumers would stick with disks and so won't need a lot of internal memory, but there will be a lot of people who will have a large digital collection and so need more than simply 32gb or even 64gb of flash memory. My guess is that there will be a pro bundle with a 500GB drive preinstalled, but there shouldn't be anything stopping you from fitting a drive of your own into the budget model.

Game media: Most likely the exact same format as for the Wii U, maybe with support for dual-layer disks for the few (third-party) games that need more than 25GB. Very few Wii U games exceed 10GB, and it's not very likely that the Wii 3 would drastically increase game size.

That's all so far that I thought of that I feel certain of. What do you think Nintendo will do?

LOL didn't these threads used to be like a weekly thing?

anyway, $350 isn't necessarily too much. Look at PSXbone

I remember on these forums pre-launch and just after Wii U launch there was numerous CPU/GPU power threads every day, now most of those people have gone and never post here anymore.

I wonder, if the Wii U becomes as much of a success as the 3DS what'll happen to the forums...

Now that could make for an interesting thread

My sights are set on e3 this year. Not too worried about a future console or discussing at this point because it's a few years away.

I imagine nintendo making something closer to what Sony and Microsoft will do. Which really sucks. I want them to keep doing their own thing.

As someone said, this has been discussed... However, I don't mind ^_^

My expectations has been set by Iwata himself. He stated that he wants all next Gen systems - handheld, home console and any other device they may or may not release - should share a platform so when you buy a game it works on all platforms.

A lot of people, when I discussed this, tried to say that isn't possible. That they couldn't make a game or app for ARM and Power and work. However, Microsoft is doing this. Any Universal app you purchase will now work on Xbox One, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.

If Microsoft can do this, so can Nintendo. And this will be awesome if they do.

What I hope they do is go for a unified CPU/GPU based on ARM, breaking backward compatibility.  Roughly a 4 to 8 core ARM processor and GPU comfiguration found in high-end phones we currently have today for the next DS.  A 12-core ARM processor that runs at the highest clock-speeds and a custom GPU based on the phone stuff for the home console.  If they think they have the resources to coble together a custom phone that works on the 2 American spectrums with DRM embedded so people can download and play Nintendo games on it.  A Nintendo phone made by a third party, sure.  See what works and sells then adjust their plans for the next generation.  What I think makes sense for Nintendo is to follow what Amazon has done with their closed App store and New Fire TV line.  Will Nintendo every do any of this?  NO!

Fusion will be the Gameboy Fusion shown with Super Mario Galaxy but on the show floor Capcom will show Dead Rising and Resident Evil 5 running on the system and people will go bananas.

I expect the same thing as the Wii U and that's why I won't be purchasing it.

With today's climate, your right end of the bell curve consumer is only buying a console for exclusives. The people in the middle have different reasons, yet would want more than that.

Nintendo has an oppertunity to put the real games out. I am referring to the franchises we have not seen that could appeal to the middle of the bell curve on sight alone. If we had X, Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, Fzero, an Earthbound remake or sequel, Metroid, Punch Out, etc. on the shelves, the first party line up would be devastating to the competition.

Now people are buying the system for more than just a handful of games (presuming Nintendo's other franchises are not met with with bias).

Until Nintendo can get the games out, their system will be a 'wait and see'. Instead, their IP has the power to make it a first purchase in today's market, yet it is not really utilized.

I thought this was going to be the benefit of having weaker hardware- stay a gen behind and lower development costs.

Anyway, no saving it now without courting hardcore gamers that will give you a solid attach rate.

As i see Nintendo making them work together, i guess the whole package (Wii 3 + Fusion (working as controller)) will go as high as 400-450$.

Which means, the handheld will go for 200$ and the home console for 250$ without a controller (for those who have a handheld) and 300$ for the version with a controller.

If they use the same tech - and they will, as Iwata mentioned - then they can lower the production costs on some parts and invest on better/more memory, more internal flash memory.
I hope they don`t include a HDD on it. It`s way cheaper to buy a better HDD in a store.
