A Brooklyn man plans to file suit against a camera-shy cop.
William Paybarah, 24, says he was recording an officer who pulled him over for running a red light in SoHo in March when the cop snatched his iPhone and then threw him up against a fence.
“As he's getting out of his car, the first thing I do is hit record,” Paybarah said. “Within 10 seconds, he took the phone out of my hands and threw me up against a fence.”
Paybarah, of Bushwick, Brooklyn, was taken into custody and held at the Manhattan Detention Complex for 11 hours. Police said the reason he was taken into custody was because he didn’t have ID.
Since then, he has done community service, filed a complaint with the Civilian Complaint Review Board and hired lawyer Andrew Stoll, of Stoll, Glickman & Bellina, who last week filed notice of his intent to sue the NYPD.
In Paybarah’s video, taken around 9 a.m. March 19, Police Officer Christian Rich, who has been on the force for three years, tells Paybarah to stop recording.
“Put the phone away,” Rich says. “Put the phone away.”
He then grabs the iPhone 5c.
“Don't touch me!” Paybarah can be heard saying before the video ends.
Paybarah says that's when the cop threw him into a metal fence between Mercer St. and Green St. on Houston. More officers arrived and arrested him.http://www.nydailyne...ticle-1.1850311
