Right now I have a 250gb hard drive connected to my Wii U, and only use about 70gb. I'm forced to upgrade my laptop from a 128Gb Kingston SSDNow V200 to a 256GB Crucial MX100. I do have a couple spare enclosures (and in fact got another to perform the transfer with) so i could pop the Kingston into my Wii U no problem that way.

 

I'm thinking the Kingston would at least be noticeable in reducing some load times, and research on SSDs seem to indicate that the Wii U's constant writing won't hurt the SSD at all. I guess I'm mostly wondering about whether or not the lack of TRIM support in the Wii U will impact speed once the SSD has been written to once.

Which i was aware of. Anything else I need to consider?

Well you guys are helpful. I am checking how the 360 and PS3 fare with SSDs (As there are a lot more direct hits and none of the noise from google referencing the Wii U's flash memory) and they all seem to say that SSD helps a bit, but not worth buying a new one outright to use for the Wii U. But since I'm using a spare that's going to be lying around it's worth it.

 

 

As long as the lack of TRIM and the Wii U's proprietary filesystem doesn't severely impact garbage collection.
