I am sure a good number of us want a Mario title at launch. It probably won't happen. I notice when people say a Wii U mario title at launch, they mean in the mainline(SM64, etc.). It would be cool....but does it have to be in the mainline? I know that if a Mario Strikers U or a Mario Paint was at launch, I would play it. What are your thoughts?

I think that people wouldn't swarm to buy a Wii U for Mario Paint, or a Mario sports title.

The reason it will most likely be mainline is simply sales. More people would buy a Wii U for Super Mario Universe, than they would for Mario Strikers U.

I doubt the big Wii U Mario game will be a launch title, which sucks. The only Mario sports game I would see doing well is a new Mario Strikers game as they are closer to the hardcore department then tennis or baseball.

I know they dont sell as well as the mainline, but they still sell well and are generally well-recieved. And it give us another good first party title cuz wheither Pikmin 3 is a launch title or not...it won't be enough.

If Nintendo was going to release a non mainline Mario game, it would not be Mario Party, Paper Mario or Mario Kart as both already have been released recently ( Mario Kart 7,Paper Mario 3DS and Mario Party 9. though the latter two are not out yet but will be before or shortly after the Wii U launches.) So it would likley be a sports title or a new Mario spin off franchise.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a side scrolling Mario game at launch.

I think IGN brought this up, they had a few levels already programmed for testing at last year's E3 with the controller. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up making a full fledged game out of it to have at launch. Mario is the poster child for Nintendo and the 3DS really took of once it had the two Mario games this holiday season. Having a Mario game at launch showing the functionality of the system and giving potential buyers a must buy right away would make a lot of sense.

Not to mention 2D Marios sell really well, even better than the 3D Marios.

The Only launch title Mario games I recall are Super Mario Bros, Mario World, and Mario 64. Those were all sucessful games. But lately, Mario usually takes a little while to get a Mainstream game out. Except for 3D Land.

I don't see a sports or racing Mario game at launch. If there was any Mario game at launch I would think it would be something like a side-scrolling Mario.

Yeah plus now I think there will be a 2D Mario at launch. Maybe even as a pack in game

Agreed. They'll probably have a WiiSports type game at launch anyways.

Another NSMB is very likely considering the sales of the last one.
