I would like to but I mostly travel through bus and sadly they don't have any sockets and apart from that I don't normally wait in a location away from home long for the wii u to be worth it, especially since I have portable handhelds and I can use them a lot more easily.

You could get one of those portable wall outlet things and keep it and your wii u console in a backpack. Then just use the gamepad as if it were a portable.
