I recently sent my sons WiiU to Nintendo as a couple of games were freezing. Had it back today stating that it was no longer under warranty as it contains parts/components which were not manufactured by Nintendo. Anyone else had an issue like this? I bought it from a reputable retailer and we haven't added anything to it. Nintendo state they don't have any other details other than it's been modified.

Perhaps the previous owner opened the system and broke a seal or something along those lines. I haven't heard of any Wii U modifications but I also haven't searched for such myself so I can't say for sure.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

If it was pre-owned then who knows what the previous owner might have done to it?

Try and check if you have the "Homebrew Channel" installed in Wii Mode.

I would talk to Tesco then. You should have a one year guarantee with them and if you explain the situation then I'm sure they will help you out.

Why send a console to Nintendo just because a couple games were freezing? Sounds like a software issue and not a hardware issue. Weird

They got me to do some checks over the phone and the games never caused a problem before. They seem to think its a hardware issue.

Sounds like he called them first, they said send it to us, and then sent it back to him saying "No Go".
