This is good, I wonder if Nintendo thought they would be successful?

found out some inside information working at best buy, but some of the amiibo's have a higher margin value than others. for example when i was looking at the store cost (which also is our employee pricing) Mario cost more than Donkey kong, $11.05 mario and $9.56 dk. may not sound like a big deal, but that $1.50 difference tells me that nintendo is selling mario figures to these retailers at a higher price than others, which also must indicate one will be more valuable in the sense of use across other games.

The reason could just be that they expect to sell more of the Mario figures than the other.

The figures, as far as i know, all work the same way.

On topic:

Glad to see them selling so well, but the real test will be during the holidays. That`s also when people buy toys for kids and could really boost sales.

I`m surprised only amazon is selling them.

Maybe they got a deal with Nintendo.

Aw man my girlfriend has convinced me to buy Disney Infiniti and collect the figures....then Nintendo announces these! I think these are awesome because when they're not used they will be great display pieces in the house.

What do these even do in game?

You can use them to level up a character based on the figure and use them to fight your friends.

Unlike skylanders you don't need to buy them to play the game. Just if you want to use a custom leveled character to have fun with friends and you can use it on both 3DS and Wii U versions.

The leveled up character will work only in a certain game mode then? It would be a bit odd to just allow it in any mode. Though I guess that begs the question, in what ways does it level and how does the figure level it up?

They work in all local modes if I remember correctly, during battle you just out the figure on the gamepad and it switches/adds your fighter. How the level up system works hasn't auite been explained but I think they work just like the customization on your normal fighters.

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

Can someone explain the use of the Amiibo figures in smash bros?

Well since I was already asking that I just looked it up now:

"In the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U game, you'll be able to scan your amiibo into the game. You'll then be able to fight against your amiibo, team up with it in battle or watch it battle other in-game characters. Your amiibo will be able to increase its attack and defense stats and even learn new fighting tactics."

Then that player would have an advantage over everyone else though, right? That seems odd.

Eh, I'm not seeing any reason why this is a necessary or worthwhile feature.

Oh it isn't necessary but it's pretty cool in my opinion. Certainly makes training alone a lot more fun

It's practically like making an actual friend for the first time!

Eh, I'm not seeing any reason why this is a necessary or worthwhile feature.

Other games will use the same amiibos as well, which multiplies the value depending on the amount of games they'll work in. Also, other games will use it differently. Perhaps others will make them mandatory ala Disney Infinity/skylanders.

Don`t know...

They are pretty much the same size. Mario will probably outsell DK in lifetime sales, that alone would be a reason to make Mario cheaper than DK.
