What amazes me the most is that, unlike every other game site which i visit want to shutdown gamergate topics immediately (probably because it's a poor topic for the gaming community to be commenting on), you guys seem intent on making a bitter family feud over it.

Once again, 3dude is having a period and wants to bore people with a song and dance of long posts, repetition and an overly aggressive Honnoji Academy style logic reprogramming for a cause that honestly, has no reach here in the slightest.

Then you have Wydra, who doesn't realise he keeps poking a stone wall with a blade of grass.

Roobot jumps in with a Nintendo superiority joke that loses all meaning because the topic pages are beyond 1. Unless you believe argument threads with no point are what Nintendo wants.

Ryudo is tolerable for once. Probably the only person who has basically said "shut the **** up you grommits". Then you have all these other users getting ignored on the middle ground, like some Barkis 3DS tier discredited newtypes.

And seriously Mourn, why haven't you shut this thread down yet? You knew where it was going from the start.

Remember kids: Gaming has never been better. And drink your fu[c]king koolaid boi!

Trophy Cards are classy too! LOLZIGZAGOON

Well that's not why gamergate discussions get shut down, but that's besides the point...

I stopped seriously responding to 3dude quite some time ago except for the single response on the last page, which was more of a general comment towards anyone on the anti gamergate side.

What blows my mind is that it's the site staff here doing the lion's share of the flaming. What's the point of having moderation if the moderators are off their leashes and calling community members idiots?

@3Dude: If you lack the maturity to agree to disagree with someone and move on instead of shoving your opinions down everyone's throats every chance you can, then you have no business calling yourself a moderator. You're supposed to be here to protect the community against this sort of abuse, not fuel it.

You're right 3Dude, you've caught our leader (even though I've never head of him before), but don't worry, we're working on resurrecting Hitler, since he is the perfect embodiment of our morals. Heil Hydra :^)

-Signed, WydrA (commander and chief of the racist gamergate movment

I have no doubt you have never heard of him before. I know far more about your 'movement' than you do.

You HAVE, reapetedly cited information FROM him, like all your 'evidence' you keep trying to link to (Which is why he currently has restraining orders against the women repeatedly brought up in your 'evidence') and things that hes done, like donating large chunks of GG's money that went to charity, which he uses as leverage constantly.

What blows my mind is that it's the site staff here doing the lion's share of the flaming. What's the point of having moderation if the moderators are off their leashes and calling community members idiots?

1. That never happened, once. Grounded criticism and rebuking is not 'flaming'
2. Actions have consequences.
3. I post observable facts, and then comment on them. If no one else can make a reasonable retort that doesnt get instantly deconstructed by me, and a slew of facts I post, maybe its time they conduct some deep introspection. For example, made up conspiracies that have recently been shown to not work at all whatsoever in a REAL court of law, and ended up with the gamergater recieving restraining orders, dont fly for a reason.
4. If you want to be comforted by group think echo chambers 'protecting you', and you can do and say whatever you want and nobody will hold you accountable, you are clearly in the wrong place.

5. If you want this thread locked, asked mournblade, hes the one who decided to do it. He will be the one who decides to lock it. Which is fine by me. I spent everyday this crap went on hoping Wydra wouldnt bring this crap here, but knowing he eventually would.

In defense of 3Dude...

I too have argued with 3Dude in the distant past, and been on the fiery end of it. However, I was arguing for the wrong reasons... He was right, but I just wanted to protect the feelings of a newcomer, so I jumped in.

I'm against saying that 3Dude shouldn't be a moderator. 3Dude is 3Dude, he probably even took the job because he was asked. 3Dude is a great member most of the time, and a pretty good debater who sticks up for his opinion the other half. I don't think his powers should be taken away.

I don't see any reason for this thread to be locked or removed. Yes, there is an argument going on, but a lengthy conversation as well. Both are good. The whole reason there is a thread here is because Mourn didn't want status updates to be inundated with the subject matter.

The whole fiasco of gamergate is the essence of this very thread. Factual information is buried deep under spam, hate speech, trolling, scare tactics, misinformation and disinformation.

Here's your problem, mate:

Always be respectful of others and their opinions. No personal attacks, hateful/racist comments, flame wars, etc.

Taken straight from the ruleset, which I doubt you even bothered to read. If you weren't willing to adhere to this rule, you shouldn't have joined the site in the first place.

Furthermore:

Keep it appropriate. This means no posting pornographic or fetishistic images or content

Which means you can't post a link to the Daily Dose image, even if you put a NSFW warning. Which also means you should be banned already for linking to a rape article earlier this year where you could blatantly see genitals.

Honestly, I'm not buying that "actions have consequences" when your actions never have consequences. And would you look at that, you're also conveniently a mod! I wonder how this looks to an outsider?

1. I havent made anything that can be considered a 'personal attack'. I deconstruct arguments. That happening to make people look stupid is not the same thing as me directly attacking them and calling them stupid. Rebutting arguments is not the same thing as a personal attack. Maybe if you didnt identify yourself by your 'side' you wouldnt feel attacked when I deconstruct it, and would be able to distinguish a THING from YOURSELF. Taking an opinion seriously, is being respectful of it. Thats not the same thing as always agreeing with it, or treating you with kid gloves.

2. The link I gave was completely censored, and I warned people not to look for the real one, and that they didnt need to find it to understand the context. Also, welcome to the real world. Its not pretty, and Im sorry if it inconveniences you to find how nasty gamergate, aka 'AAAAAA indoctrinated gamer culture' gets, or if you didnt want me to show other people whats behind gamergates facade. Its an integral part of gamergate, a part of the very core of its 'movement'.

3. Its almost like I have responsibility and accountability. Like I actually back up the things I bring up with proof, which of course, you try to use against me in the most shallow and petty of ways, instead of adressing anything actually brought up.

Also, it raises, eyebrows that you already KNEW, gamergates mascot and logo were rape memes, and didnt bother to tell anyone. Ethics indeed. As in, 'ethics are when people agree with us, and corruption is when they dont'.

This topic is a great reason why GG is kinda laughed at. Sure maybe at one time had a noble cause and sure some bad and dumb stuf happened but many people online who were not involved took it so personal and now we have this kinda mess. It's silly.

If you want to carry on some noble cause you can do it without being a trend on the internet and need catchy buzz words with gate in it.

I have peoples rights and beliefs I stand up for as well all the time but I been doing it long before twitter was a thing. It seems to me a good many people jump on to be part of a trend. Also screaming at one another like 12 years olds changes nothing online esp at one another and no opinions will be swayed this way.

This topic while expresses freedom, has also become pointless. Maybe should be lokced or maybe not but in it's current form should be killed like failed clone Ripley in Alien 4. Take your fight and stand up beliefs where it matters.

In the meantime lets play games and have fun.  now lets all kiss and make up! Unless you're not man enough to kiss another man in the modern age son! :P

It never makes sense as a movement to ditch a name like gamergate. Every movement has a name because it helps raise awareness as a cause, and helps people identify with it. If there is no shared name it just becomes a bunch of individuals, people won't work together and the whole thing will fall apart before anything is truly accomplished. Yes people had movements before twitter, but I gurantee you if it was around when those movements were, they would have done they're best to use it. It's an incredibly powerful tool for a movement, and abandoning it would be folly.
There may be plenty of debating going on and plenty of people intolerant of others' opinions (a la 3Dude), but without a doubt some people are changing sides, so it's clearly not always just useless shouting. More importantly, despite what people are trying to make you believe, GamerGate is accomplishing a lot. They've raised awaress of an illegal firing over at destructoid, they have gawker very much on the run since they have gotten some big name advertisers to pull out, and Adobe to distance themselves from the site (Gawker claimed they supported the site when they didn't and they found this out through people asking them to abandon the site after Sam Biddle and Max Read supported bullying, so I guarantee you Adobe will never support them now, since on top of that, what they did was illegal, and technically Adobe has the right to sue them). Gawker is actually scared to the point they've tried to remove their advertisers and supporters pages from their website. Then you have Intel, who pulled from gamasutra quite some time ago. It looks like they have the unofficial support of Wikileaks and Julian Assange (as I've also mentioned) and this is still ongoing. Everyday news of successful gamergate stories breaks. that's why I posted KotakuInAction. It chronicles all of these happenings, and was supposed to show you guys that this is just a bunch of angry white men shouting at feminists.

Also I wouldn't say the thread has warranted anything to get locked. Even if it is "pointless", pointlessness isn't against the rules and stopping possible future discussion that could be useful because the discussion currently isn't particularly good doesn't make sense.

And when any time you're standing up for what you believe in, taking your beliefs where it matters means taking your beliefs everywhere. Awareness is key.

Finally, it's possible to play games and stand up for what is right. Like I said before, everyone loves to bash on game journalism. but when a group tries to finally do something about it, people start going on about how this pointless and how everyone should "just play games".

All right... we now know why some people think GamerGate is great and why others don't and are very upset about the first category thinking GamerGate is great. Wonderful thread. And to top it off, here is Clickhole's "summary of the GamerGate movement that they will immediately change if any of its members find any details objectionable":

Well it was generally pretty factual (except the part about getting advertisers to remove their ads fromo certain sites, I think most gamergaters support that action, as the sites this happened not only all practiced unethical journalism, but also refused to talk about it and went on to bully people who tried to talk about it with them).

I'm not so sure about this being scared part though. While it was amusing, I feel like people might get the wrong message and think the whole thing is satirical...

It is. The entire thing is satirical, its the onion, its making fun of gamergate.

It's funny how every time someone disagrees with they way you present your arguments, they're automatically supporters of GamerGate. I don't know anything about GamerGate, and, really, if I had to side with anyone in this thread, I'd side with the anti-GamerGate side. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna accept your deplorable disregard for the rules of the website.

1.- Aha, but in fact you have directly insulted and called people stupid. Just because they're accompanied by a real argument it doesn't mean they're not there. Or do you want me to quote the many, many times you've called Wydra a "brainwashed tool" and "ignorant prick"?

Also, how you seem think that having an argument that doesn't devolve into spiels made entirely from inflammatory language is treating it with kid gloves, is beyond me.

2.- Warning or no warning, censored or not censored, you're still posting a link that deals with and links to fetishistic content, a link you DIDN'T need to post because you're not going to find anyone contesting the legitimacy of a relatively easy to find meme. Look at the rule. It very clearly says "No posting" not "No posting without a warning" or "No posting unless you're 3Dude". Hold yourself accountable, will you?

3.- I'm not here to add anything to the ongoing debate, that's why I didn't address anything brought up. I'm not trying to discredit your argument, as you seem to think, I'm here to point out a big issue with the moderation of this website, that, sadly, is present in full force within this thread.

I'm not sure if that's addressed towards me, but just in case, I wasn't aware that GamerGate's mascot (didn't even know they had a logo or that Vivian James was their mascot previous to reading this terrible thread) was a rape meme. I was deeply disappointed when I read of it here, since I actually liked the concept of Vivian James and what TFYC's were doing with her. It's really too bad it ended up being typical 4chan crap.

I'm with everyone else on the sentiment that this thread should be locked.

I'm with everyone else on the sentiment that this thread should be locked.

Thank you for saving me the time of writing a similar response.

But the main two people commenting and arguing their points don't want it to be locked.

Well maybe they have a point. Can't fart in a sealed room without killing everyone. Farts need air. Some people just have a lot of gas.

Can we get air freshener at least? Smell is taking over the gaming form.

Perhaps the fart would do it, but you can take a poop on a toilet in an elevator and some can cope.
