I don't recall iPhone/iPod/iPad graphical capabilities have been called into question. At least I hope they haven't. Designers often use Mac's over PC's, just because it manages multimedia better for those who aren't that deep into customising. It's probably the only thing that's kept Apple in the running against Microsoft... probably, I don't know. PC/Mac wars aren't my area of expertise.

I think there are two reasons why gamers dislike what the iSeries as gaming platforms:
1) Buttons, or the lack thereof. Even for veteran users of touchscreens, it still takes longer to do things by touch than it does with keys or buttons.
2) Quality. It's different for everyone, but for gamers, games on iSeries devices, or anything like that such as a phone or tablet (basically, anything that isn't Nintendo/Xbox/Playstation/PC), are low quality for the most part.

The thing I hate is, Apple are so confident that the bitesize experiences of gaming they can offer, that it outclasses anything else dedicated gaming can do. Okay, perhaps not Apple as the whole. I'm sure there are members inside who aren't fanboys of their own company and reasonably weigh out every comparison.

Often the lack of buttons doesn't make the game a worse experience at all, If you've ever played the original Real Racing or Real Racing II (with touch controls) you probably know what I'm talking about, and for tower defence games most people would argue that the touch screen is better.

Problem is when they emulate buttons, it's just uncomfortable.
Problem 2 is that you can't be precise at all with the iPhones touchscreen.
Problem 3 is your fingers not being invisible.

Sorry, I was mistaken.

My last statement was incorrect. It's not apple that are parading around like they own the joint, is those damn reviewers and analysts and Jack Tretton.

(Is Joke...not really.)

I never doubted that the iPod had good graphics. It's just that the thing is so dang uncomfortable to play/use that it isn't worth the time for me.

Infinity Blade is a great game considering it's on a mobile and Infinity Blade 2 also looks great. Real Racing 2 is another one of the iOS games that looks terrific. Given that these games are just often a tenth of the price of a game for a handheld console, I can see why there are people opting to buy iPod Touches instead of proper handhelds. The only ptoblem is that very few games actually really push what the devices are capable of and there are some games which suffer from a lack of physical buttons, although the examples I gave don't suffer from either of these.

Well I do feel uncomfortable with iOS gaming. I dont normally like the gameplay on them. I also know that though the graphics may be great I really dont care unless if you have good gameplay. I really do like Infinity Blade and Real Racing but nor many other games really offer a true game experience. I would like it if there was one with buttons more though. Just a touch screen doesnt cut it for me.
