Space Hulk originally came out on Steam in 2013 and was just announced for the Wii U eShop in 2015.
Space Hulk is based on the Warhammer 40,000 board game of the same name. It’s a Turn-Based Strategy title with 12 single player missions, co-op mode, a few extra side missions, and 1-vs.-1 multiplayer (with one player as the Space Marines and another as the Genestealers).
You play as a team of Space Marine Terminators which track down abandoned spaceships and kill all the alien pests inside. Namely, your enemies are the Genestealers, which look sort of like a more humanoid and purple version of the Zerg (although, to be clear, Warhammer 40,000’s Space Hulk came well before StarCraft. Space Marines are stronger and have guns, but Genestealers are more agile, numerous, and gross.
Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers.
The main features are
- Blood Angel terminator squad
- Fearsome Genestealers with challenging AI
- Thematic 3d environment
- Single player campaign based on the “Sin of Damnation” hulk
- New coop multiplayer levels against the Genestealer AI (upcoming)
- Multiplayer head-to-head recreating the board game experience against a friend
- Cross platform multiplayer between PC, Mac and iOS
- Level editor with ability to share creations (upcoming)
- Game expansions in the future as DLC
- New Co-op Game mode added supporting up to 4 players
It’s unclear at this time what, if any, changes Full Control will be making to the game before its console re-release. There also aren’t any pricing details for the Wii U release yet, but the game is currently going for $24.99 on Steam.
Oh, and if that name makes you picture the Incredible Hulk in a poorly fitted astronaut suit floating confusedly through space, you are not alone.
