In a new Bloomberg report, it’s stated that eight analysts have raised profit estimates or ratings for Nintendo since September. The two most recent ones have called for profits to triple to 36.8 billion yen.

Tomoaki Kawasaki, an analyst from Iwai Cosmo Securities Co., said:

“Nintendo has picked up good momentum heading into the Christmas season. This time they have a hit lineup. Amiibo represents a new revenue source, and we are watching it very closely.”

Ace Research analyst Hideki Yasuda also stated:

“Last year was just a bad year for the game business, and this year is a recovery. Add to that Amiibo, and you’re likely to see a considerable improvement in earnings.”

Bloomberg goes on to say that Nintendo expects to take in $1 billion from amiibo sales in the U.S. alone. This figure has come in to question and some believe that the outlet intended to refer to yen instead. In any case, things are looking up for Nintendo.

one billion dollars and one billion yen are two drastically different figures....So according to this; Ninty is making anywhere from the range of 8.2 million- 1 billion on amiibos :P

Well, let's see, okay? Each Amiibo costs $10 in the US IIRC. There's 12 Amiibos out right now, and with the way they're catching on, there's going to be a lot. Assuming with optimism that the Wii U is at 8 Million(I can't find any numbers that aren't out dated and last numbers I found were 7.3, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt), we get 1,000,000,000 dollahs /8,000,000 Wii U owners which is then divided by 10 dollar/Amiibo Unit, we get an average amount of Amiibos sold per system as 12.5, which is higher then the current number of Amiibos. But fear not, my comrades, as there are 6 more Amiibos coming, which still puts the overall adaptation rate to completion at roughly 70%, which is a bit on the high side. However :Anecdotal evidence: the large number of collectors that seem interested in these figures, there's a chance of several people double dipping on figures(See One for collection and one for use). Overall, I'd expect a large sum come the end of the holidays, but $1 Billion is basically what I'd consider the Stars to be aligning in Nintendo's favour

TL;DR Nintendo's going to make a crap ton, but $1 Billion is a long shot.

$1 billion is like 1/16th of Nintendo's worth, in one holiday season. Nintendo's been going for like 125 years and they're worth that much, I doubt that they would make that much money but who knows.

Looks like amiibo's were a masterstroke since you need a Wii U or new 3ds to actually use them, hence more sales for consoles. Not to mention a ton of exclusive games out now.

For it to be 1bn dollars, Nintendo would need to make quite a few million amibos. Something like 83m if you assume every amiibo costs 12$ (retail price).

Now, if you take it as 1bn yen, then it would mean that Nintendo would have produced close to 700k to reach those numbers. Which would bring a revenue of 8 million dollars.

I think it's the latter.

I think they have sold more than 700k. I would guess 3.5 million or so. That would put ownership at less than half per person per system. That's a conservative number considering some bought 12, many buying multiple.

Triples profit estimates. That last bit is the operating word. It's also pretty clear that the billion figure is in yen. Quick math will show that immediately.

Some people I work with buy these things not just to play games.

They use them as action figures to decorate their cubicles. And yes I'm serious. Lol

They're very well designed, so I can see the appeal. Having a chip that adds to your gane really feels like crowding the barrier from reality to virtual and keeps turn connected. Pretty cool.

You mean they didn't sell at least 100 million amiibo? That's surprising. /s

Lol a lot of people bought them for that reason. Thus the general disappointment when a lot of the figures looked a lot worse than their E3 counterparts.
