In just a few weeks, Nintendo will hold an event specifically for Splatoon, the company’s upcoming squid-inspired third-person shooter. The event should be in Tokyo during the Game Party Japan event, though the timing is a bit uncertain — Explosion (along with all other outlets reporting about the Splatoon event) cites dates of December 31st and January 1st, but Game Party Japan 2015 actually takes place January 31st and February 1st. We’re inclined to think it’s the latter and that a typo is to blame, but we’ll look into it and update you further.

Nevertheless, we’re getting new Splatoon info soon. The game will be playable at the event, and we can expect additional footage and gameplay details, especially rewardingly the recently revealed single-player mode. With the recent launch of the official North American Tumblr account for Splatoon and now this event in Japan, you can tell the Q2 2015 release date is going to be here before we know it.

Worth mentioning that New Years eve is huge in Japan. It's like our new years eve combined with Christmas from what I understand. Not their Christmas of by the way, since apparently their Christmas is bollocks.

Probably because Christmas isn't an official holiday there.

Well kinda. It's an official holiday technically, but they don't take the day off, and it's basically just completely commercial. All about sales, and none of the spirit is what I've been told :/ So kind of like Valentine's day I guess.

Yeah, New Year's Eve really is their most important date and a Splatoon event will really join a lot of people.

Nintendo is already gearing up the marketing for the game.
Truth is, the game is supposed to come out in 2Q of 2015 in the US and Europe, but the last release Schedule that Nintendo gave out only mentioned 2015 for the game... as it did for every game coming out for Wii U, in Japan.

Christmas has been getting more popular there for around a decade, I'd say it's reasonably big now.
