Ok but what is Apex?

http://www.apex-series.com/history/

Back in 2008 Apex started out as an idea by Johnathan Lugo and Cristin DeSaro as a Brawl only tournament for the NYC scene. It was a pipe dream, and although it started off small, it was the starting point to something bigger and better.  The inaugural Apex had to be delayed, but would come back as an even bigger and better idea.

During 2009 Apex was back in full swing as a whole new tournament.  With the help of local NJ host Inui, the team was able to secure a ballroom in the Palmer Inn, in Princeton, NJ. The tournament was focused on Super Smash Bros Brawl, but to ensure the growth of the community as a whole, offered it’s predecessor, Super Smash Bros Melee, a chance to prove that after many years, the game was still a vluable part of the scene!  Brawl was still a fresh title with a metagame that was still rapidly evolving, and the competition was fierce.  In a time where Mew2king had displayed his dominance for nearly a year, Ally, the Canadian Snake player, came and manged a clean and solid victory over the 1st seed Mew2King.  For the first time a major tournament would not be won by Mew2King and set up a rivalry that lasts even to today. The results for this tournament were for what we had hoped for but it was time to plan for an even larger event.  It was time to plan for the world.

yada yada....

Pretty old news lol.

Kind of caused a bit of a ruckus, because it was the cause of Project M being pulled this year. Nintendo has to pretend not to be aware the mod exists, or they have to shut it down, and they obviously can't do that anymore  if they're sponsoring a tourney for the game.

Also so far the number of sign ups makes it the second biggest melee tournament in history. (Apex 2014 being the first)

Fun fact about the pretending it doesn't exist: If you mention Project M or PM on Miiverse, you get banned to discussing illegal activity.

lol that kind of sucks, but playing into what I said above, it's also kind of funny/awesome.

Apex 2015 is now officially the biggest smash tournament in history in history, with the most melee entrants for any smash tournament ever, the biggest smash 64 tournament ever on this side of the world (Japan has had bigger apparently) and the biggest smash 4 tournament in history (though that doesn't say nearly as much of course). Currently, there are 188 people signed up for the 64 brackets, 828 for the smash 4 brackets and Melee in fact managed to reach the entrant cap of 1024 players (to be accurate it actually went one over at 1025). Also a pretty impressive list of top tier players are going to be there, including but not limited to

Mang0, M2k, Ken, Chillindude, Armada, PPMD PC Chris(!!!!!!! (his first entrance in what's supposed to be his comeback to smash)), and like a bunch of other people, including some Japanese players like amSa and even some people who aren't know for smash (Justin Wong in 64).

It's gonna be crazy. Really crazy. A link to the updated reg numbers (I can't sit here checking and changing the numbers all day): http://register.apex...gisteredMembers

You can still register for any of the game listed there (except melee of course) now. Registration ends 11:59 est tonight and is about $45 right now I believe.

196 more people until smash U fills up.

2 tourney with 1024 will be interesting. also i wonder who needs to beat 11 players instead of 10 in the melee tourney.
