Iwata said Nintendo sold about 5.7 million of its new Amiibo figurines worldwide since late November, giving an early indication of whether the company’s strategy of selling toys will be successful. Iwata spoke at a briefing in Osaka today.

That's a lot of amiibos!

 

I wonder what kind of plans Nintendo to sustain the momentum for amiibo. I doubt people will buy several figures of the same character or that there will be a lot of games that use different characters, like Smash.

 

Amiibo Land might be a good idea to capitalize on the amiibo momentum, instead of just a NintendoLand 2.

Approximately 12000 of those were Lil' Mac, Falcon, Villager, WFT, Marth, and Pit combined

Over half if you combine both 3DS and Wii U smash sales. That totaled 9 million. 3 on Wii U 6 on 3DS.

Well, I got four over here and I'm planning on getting Toon Link and Lucina. You think you'll just get one, and then you're hooked. Of course it prints money.
