Joe Madureira, the creator and director of the Darksiders games, formed Airship Syndicate following the collapse of THQ and Vigil Games. He and his new team is preparing to announce something.

Madureira tweeted out the image you see above writing, "Looks like there's a storm coming," alongside hashtags like #DyingToTellYou. He followed up that tweet saying that some kind of announcement will be happening in the next few days. Those tweets were on Friday, February 20.

Madureira and other former Vigil members like Ryan Stefanelli, who served as producer for Darksiders II, announced the formation of Airship Synidicate back in September of last year. You can read an interview with Madureira and Stefanelli about the formation of the new studio by heading here.

Additionally, this doesn't appear to have anything to do with whatever Madureira and Airship Syndicate are working on, but he recently posted this very cool Castlevania tribute piece.

Our Take
Some are speculating the image is teasing something related to Battle Chasers, the comic book series Joe Madureira made a name for himself with, but never actually completed. He abandoned the series in 2001 after nine issues to pursue a career in video game design. Frankly, I am up for whatever from Madureira and Stefanelli. I'm a big fan of Darksiders and am excited to see what that creative team does next.

Darksiders 3 please! Although I'm guessing it'd skip the Wii U.

Battle Chasers

Battle Chasers was a comic book from the late 1990s that suffered notorious production problems between issues and was never finished.

Madureira formed Airship Syndicate after the collapse of THQ, where he co-created Darksiders. His latest tweets suggest a reveal for his new project is imminent.

Speaking to Polygon, Madureira and Stefanelli say they aren't ready to describe the Battle Chasers game in detail yet, but that it will be a role-playing game, players will get to control classic Battle Chasers characters including Garrison, Gully and Calibretto and the game will feature a sense of adventure similar to the Darksiders games. [Update: In the original version of this story, we reported Airship saying it was targeting PC and tablets. Shortly after we posted this story, Airship contacted Polygon to say that it is targeting PC and consoles, and "considering” a tablet version.]

"Even though the game mechanically is going to be very different from Darksiders, I think we're still really going to be doing everything we can to make sure that the dungeon exploration side of the game is soaked with lots of fun adventurous elements," says Stefanelli.

Stefanelli adds that he hopes to keep the development team small, between 10 and 15 people, to make a game that is "kind of classic and old school but presented with some new modern twists."
