Back in 2013, Layton 7, the newest game in the series at the time, was announced for iOS, Android, and 3DS. Now it seems like the latter platform has been cut out entirely, as developer Level-5 unveiled its work so far on the project and only included information for a release on smart devices.

The game will be card-centric, and will feature a plot that tasks players with locating a vampire among a crowd. Uh, interesting! CEO Akihiro Hino noted that he'd like to bring Layton 7 to Wii U, but hasn't committed anything yet. We've reached out for comment on the 3DS situation.

He also said he'd like to do a remaster/port of the Layton Trilogies for the Wii U.

We've yet to see that, so don't hold your breath for this travesty to the Layton franchise.

Is this Level-5's first attempt at a iOS/Android version of Professor Layton? I have never heard of Professor Layton anywhere except for Nintendo handhelds, which I'm assuming means that public awareness is insufficient for Level-5 to sell enough to make a profit on the Mobile game.

This is their first mobile game with Professor Layton himself in the game, but don't be fooled. This is nothing like the DS/3DS entries in the series...everything I've read points to it being a card-based party game.
