Oh wow. Can't believe I read all that. I never actually played a Metroid game (other than Other M, which I enjoyed) but all that makes me want to play them all. I think I'll start with the non-Prime games.

well, the lore is definitely interesting, though not extremely detailed. Though its essentially fighting cthulhu, aka the unknown/unknowable, not the monster. It would also fit in very well with starcraft lore, which has its event happen during the game, instead of events that happened before.
