After Splatoon launches, Nintendo will continue supporting the game with additional content. Producer Hisashi Nogami teased upcoming plans while speaking with GamesRadar, and noted that the team hopes Splatoon “will become a franchise that Nintendo can be proud of.”

Below are Nogami’s full words:

We can’t go into a lot of detail on that today, but we do have some plans to follow up with content to keep interest in the game post-launch. We on the development team are thinking of the launch as a first step of sorts. We hope to add to that in terms of content, and even to the degree that we’re hoping that this will become a franchise that Nintendo can be proud of.

Mario Kart 8 received a ton of DLC after launch, and now we’re starting to see the same thing with Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS. Might Splatoon be next?

All I want is for them to make a local player mode just like the online one. If I can play Smash and Mario Kart the same in local as online then so should this.

Yeah, kinda sucks only one v one. My best guess is the hard deadline didn't give them the chance, thus DLC.

My hope is for additional weapons and miltiplayer maps. If they can do that then all is good.

I hope this becomes Nintendo's answer to Team Fortress completely. But with better fashion options than hat towers.
Also with dlc and continued support, voice chat probably will come if it turns out the game actually benefits from it.

Voice chat dlc would really be a low blow move by Nintendo.

The game would definitely benefit from it, I doubt they'd charge for it if they did make it DLC though.

As for the TF2 comment, there's far better cosmetic items in TF2 than hat towers.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

I got the sense from reading various interviews that it was restricted by the hardware.The whole inky-ness being, I assume, a lot harder to render 4 times than a Mario Kart track.

For DLC i would like:

Different modes;

Nintendo characters in squid form;

If that 2D game they have going on is good, some more, please! :)

If they did the same thing as they have with Mario Kart DLC, that'd be awesome: bring in other Nintendo series! I want Link with a squid mask sliming up the walls of Hyrule castle.

The only potential flaw in that would be what would difference would there be between squid-carting and non-squid carting? Given that the usual differences is about speed, it would seem.

Have it as a double dash mode / battle mode only. my brain hurts from trying to actually make it work

Mario Galaxy would work quite well actually. A lot of the previews did point out there are similarities! Although I guess you couldn't necessarily shoot as many places you planned on going with the whole curvature issue. The paint shots would have to get caught in the gravity.

Think there was a listing leaked somewhere of Dr. Mario amiibo being compatible with the game.
