Backwards compatibility is coming to current-gen gaming. Microsoft just announced that the Xbox One will be able to play Xbox 360 games. Announced on stage and demonstrated with Mass Effect by Mike Ybarra, it sounds a lot like the OG Xbox -> Xbox 360 setup, you just plug in the disc, the system downloads a patch if necessary and then plays it. Microsoft took a chance to ding Sony for its PlayStation Now setup too, promising "gamers won't have to pay to play games they already own." If you're in the Xbox preview program, you should be able to try the feature out "soon" and Microsoft says it should have about 100 games ready to play for everyone this holiday.

It's just through emulation like OG Xbox on 360 so meh. I got excited for a second.

Not sure why everyone in the audience got so excited to play games they can already play. They were literally more excited for that then some of the new games.

Watch Sony announce the same thing but with PS2 and PS1 games just to one-up them. This is actually a big deal because now the PS4 is the only machine unable to play their old games, so it'd be interesting to see if they can respond.

Lol and watch Xbox fans claim this is why Xbox is the best system when Nintendo has had proper backwards compatibility in their last two systems for free without having to download anything.

So are they emulating the ppc code or is the patch the code recompiled for x86? That being said, it does make the Xbox one more interesting now. But I have a massive Steam library and zero Xbox games.
