Reggie explained it during the conference. Wii was for you and someone else, it was about being together. Wii U is for all of those around you, and for you, the gamer. It's a console that will be enjoyed solo, in a way.

Yeah, but I would have prefered it as the Nintendo Stream...

It's sort of their way to convey the message that this is a console for EVERY type a gamer. Both casual and hardcore alike.

Don't really think it sounds any better. And try calling it 'Stream' in other languages, like Japanese. It's gotta be able to be said in any language, the way Wii U and Wii are.

Wii was called like that because it sounded like "we", Wii U is called like that because it's a console that's centered to several people as well as "u".

Its in order to ride on the wave of the Wii craze. People love Wii. People see new game system with the name Wii. People buy new system.

I don't mind the name, i prefer it to Stream; it is what the Wii is and so much more.

This statement is false. The previous statement is true.

RIP in peace Nintendo.

I'm not to happy with the name, I was watching X-Play and they tore the console to shreds, Morgan Webb had a point if they really are trying to attract the hardcore gamer they should distance themselves from the name "Wii" and go for a different name, they could still get all the casual gamers no doubt. Someone said they should call it "Revolution" and the answer is they can't because saying "Revolution" and spelling is more difficult in Japanese.

Yeh I'm not too fond of the Wii U name either, the console looks great though. At the end of the day it's only a name.

I wish it was called the Ultra Nintendo, they said it's taking inspiration from the Super Nintendo after all. Oh well...

I'll just call it the U.

Think of it this way. Nintendo needed to market their next line of consoles while trying to maintain their other audience from their last consoles. It would've made more sense to name them something with 'DS' or 'Wii' in because people will know it's from that franchise of consoles. For example, casual gamers will trust the 'Wii' brand more than an entirely new name.
