That said, I agree with the TC. But we should only do it when it starts to really show.

Most people are too lazy/disorganised/dumb to access that, Nollog. It's a win for people like us who do use it, but you can't expect every forum goer to do the same.

Is it really that difficult to click the big "View New Content" button at the top of every page on the site?
I don't want to increase the number of topics shown in the sidebar hook in the interest of keeping the board index nice and clean. MLP Forums is about 25 times more active than TheWiiU.com, and having 5 topics in the sidebar hasn't been a problem for anyone.

Yeah, but MLP forums is all Roleplaying, posting pictures, and talking about youtube/synchtube episodes/seasons of a young girl's cartoon tv show.Is it really that difficult to click the big "View New Content" button at the top of every page on the site?

Hardly a need to post multiple threads, so the one or two threads is all you need really.

Yeah, but thewiiu.com is all console specs, controller, games and some random threads about a video game console.

You can do the same for everything.

You can do the same for everything.
Each game usually has a thread, and each feature of the console too, the hardware can be discussed from every angle, and there's articles featuring nintendoom every few days.
MLP forums is mainly basing itself on user generated content, where a user makes something, posts it, and then people comment on it.
Usually the "artists" have a single thread for their work, and new stuff goes in there.
Beyond that it's got RP's which are pretty much the same deal, OP sets the scene, people comment with their actions in the RP etc. etc.
Then there's the talk about the cartoon, which stops for however many months the show's off the air, or slows at least. That's on-par with say... one game thread, but split over hundreds of threads since MLP forum is dedicated to the show, so they need to make new threads everytime they decide to bring something up, to pad the forum out.
So, hopefully you can see how the two forums differ in how they might make use of a "recent threads" feature.

Though that might be difficult to implement.

What we do is, if we ever need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
We put the volume up to eleven. One louder.

I've made websites before it's not that hard to implement.Maybe it should show the topics like it does now, but you can click an arrow on the side or something and it shows the titles of about eight more topics. You can then choose whether to permanently extend the sidebar or not.
Though that might be difficult to implement.
