And the time has come everyone. Epic Games showcased their highly anticipated Unreal Engine 4 on SpikeTV and we have some brand new information from that show. According to Epic Games, Unreal Engine 4 will be packed with the same features and tools for all devices from low end to high end. Moreover, the company stated that every platform from the Iphone to high end PCs will be supported by Epic’s next generation engine.

The big question now is whether or not WiiU will be supported – despite some earlier statements of not supporting it. We do know that WiiU is more powerful than an Iphone, so obviously Nintendo’s platform should capable of handling this engine. If we were to guess, we’d say that it will be supported. In fact, Unreal Engine 4 (as Mike Capps said) will handle all Epic’s future games, from mobile to consoles and PC. And this could very well mean that both PS3 and X360 may get an Unreal Engine 4 title.

As for the tech demo itself, although it looked good, it didn’t look as mind-blowing as Square Enix’s tech demo. It’s pretty clear that the Luminous tech demo was better in pretty every area.

On the other hand, Tim Sweeney confirmed that the Unreal Engine 4 tech demo was running on a single high-end Nvidia GPU. It was really impressive to see a single GTX680 running this tech demo, although there were noticeable slowdowns in some areas (slowdowns could be from Spike’s streaming after all). And we can’t even imagine what a GTX690 is truly capable of.

As Sweeney said:

“That was running on a personal computer with just a single graphics card.”

Last but not least, Epic Games’ Mark Rein revealed that they already got a couple next-gen games planned. Could this mean that Unreal Engine 4 will power the upcoming PC exclusive title from Epic? One can only guess.

We’ll update our story with the tech demo as soon as it get’s available, so stay tuned for more!

Of course Epic didn't come out and say what it will be supported on but it's going to be on Iphone's, and it's possible on the PS3...So yeah the Wii U will support it.

The writer has shown her ineptitude.
Engines like Unreal don't require power, they require a specific feature set.
The xbox 360's graphics card does not offer some of the new features Unreal Engine 4 will offer, same with the Wii and PS3.
This confirms nothing.

What does confirm it though, is that it's using an r700 series, which should have all the features of direct x 11 which should be enough.

While a cut down version of unreal engine 4.0 could work on wii U it seems far more likely any multiformat games will be jointly developed on 360 and PS3 using unreal engine 3.0. Running a more complex engine on hardware not really intended for it will reduce performance and is only really suitable for more simplistic games. I think the wii made use of the unreal engine 3.0 for a few games but they were quite simplistic like a wrestling game I believe. Where as an enhanced unreal engine 2.0 was used primarily on the wii which would achieve far better results. I think the information has already been released that wii U will use unreal engine 3.0 not 4.0 and its likely most games developed with the unreal engine will be using that.

Looking at the specification of the wii U I don't think its likely it will get versions of mutiformat titles released on PS4 and the next xbox unless there are also versions of the same software for PS3 and 360. Its clear the wii U is far closer to current gen and wii U versions would be jointly developed with ps3/360 versions sharing similar resources.

I know thats not what people want to read but that seems the likely scenerio.

I would imagine its going to be a repeat of the current 360,PS3 and wii situation where the wii version is seriously cut down compared to 360 and PS3 and really a different game. Examples being the call of duty games. This time around it will be PS4, next xbox and PC games sharing similar assets and a second division of wii u, ps3 and 360 offering a similar but more limited experience. The reason being that although the PS4 and next xbox may not be graphically that cutting edge they are likely to have much improved cpu performance and greater memory allowing for a more ambitious engine.

You mean the official spec sheet that Nintendo would never ever release not even in a trillion lifetimes with all the stars of the universe running out of fuel and the universe collapsing back in on itself and still no sign of an official wii u spec sheet?

Well then its not really a spec sheet then is it? If you go to buy a car and the salesman hands you a brochure that says;

4 wheels
steering wheel
lights
seats

Would you call that a spec sheet? A specification of a product requires quite in depth information. Vague and the word specification are mutually exclusive as specification actually means detailed information.

your example is flawed.
More like:
an engine
a transmission
exhaust pipe
a radio
then others you have listed

I thought my example was good because Nintendo are avoiding listing details of the actual console specification and concentrating on other areas like the game pad which traditionally are not as important. With regard the graphics they simply state radeon HD graphics which could be any radeon gpu from early direct x 7 cards from 2001 to state of the art direct x 11 cards of today. The original wii gpu was described as ati graphics.

They aren't plasting r700 on, it's definitely updated for the 2012, I do not beleive it's GCN tech, but at least shadermodels, opengl and other support stuff is latest.

It's getting more silly by the minute, it was obvious to me Unreal 4 will be on WiiU, but UE4 is nothing special, I want to see id studio for cry sakes, should be out soon.
