I dont plan on getting it but still i have to say Xbox Infinity sounds much better than 720

Even though I will not buy it, I think that 8 is probably the final name. It sounds the best, and will tie into the OS that it is rumored to be on it.

Infinity as in... the games will be infinitely repetitive? The peripherals will be infinitely gimmicky and stupid? The Halo series will never end?

I'd say the Infinity is definitely more balanced and future proof than the Wii U, but with a 20 - 30 year lifecycle ahead of it I guess it has to be. Nintendo will probably bring out their next console in 8 or 10 years time.

I presume so because it's easier for someone on a browser to put in the number 8 than finding the ascii for the infinity logo

Xbox Infinity seems like a plausible name to me an do agree that it's better than Xbox 720. However, these big companies often purchase lots of domains, many of which are never used. I think there was a similar rumour about the Wii U, regarding a domain that Nintendo had purchased.
