In gaming today we have thousands of games. Games about jumping, eating, shooting, running, and driving. But do you notice the trend in the past examples I gave?... They are all based in reality. There are very few games that we see in the market that are strange to the point that they provide an experience that is absolutely impossible to replicate in some way. Now I know what you are going to say,

"But SolxBurst! I can't drive an F-Zero car in real life, I can't use a keyblade and go from world to world defeating heartless, I can't jump on a turtle in space while spinning while a star comes out of my head and another gravity of another planet catches me! You can't find that in reality!"

Yes, that is true, but all of those things that you see are something that exist in real life, something that I (as a kid) would run around outside and pretend I was actually doing that. But gaming is a medium that we can do anything with. There are no limits to what you can do, so with that said, games are something that we can experience something completely unrecognizable from real life. For this I give an example of a book called Flatland.

Flatland was a book that was extremely hard to imagine, I don't know about you but when I read a book I try to imagine it play out in my head like a movie, it took place in two dimensions, a two-dimensional world and a one-dimensional land. While the book described what was happening you found it hard to imagine things, you would think you would, but wouldn't be able to really perceive it. This was what was so compelling about it, it didn't seem like anything I could experience or really understand what was happening but it was at the same just cool. Now this relates to gaming how? Well, games have the opportunity to do something very similar, put you in world that is completely unrecognizable, to change our physics, see new dimensions, new universes. But we don't see a lot of it, instead we see first person shooters, racing games, and fighters.

Now I am not saying that there is no place for games based in reality, in fact I say quite the opposite. Games like call of Duty, F1 Racing, and Street Fighter are fun and cool to play. But there is so much more we can do, take us out of this reality and put us in another, other ways to tell stories, other ways to play and have fun. There could be a new categorization of genres. Reality, and Non-Reality and each of those have sub-genres. This could spice up gaming and give us a whole new perspective on what we can do with games.

Unfortunately for me and you I am having a hard time getting my point across, the thing about this idea is it would be incredibly hard to market, so it would be something that would be hard for big companies to do unless the genre became big. Nonetheless it is something that I would really like to happen, a game that is so hard to think about, recreate, something that every time that someone sees it they have their mind blown.

Tell me what you think! And if this was to confusing (which it probably was) just ask and I will try to get my point across better.

Indie games. There is just about one for every idea ever. Still I would love to see more unique experiences come from big budget studios, but they aren't profitable enough to even consider.

Be wary, the suck is coming.

Yep, there was an indie game that I was going to use in this article but I couldn't find it. But indie games are the only games that even start to dig into the idea of games that are completely different from the norm, but they still don't do as much as they could with a big budget.
