I went to my local GameStop today, and I got into a conversation about the Wii U with one of the employees. At one point, I asked if they are going to have a Wii U midnight launch. He replied: "No. Nintendo doesn't want us to have midnight launches for their consoles. I guess because they are a family friendly company."

So, in short, according to this employee, no GameStops will be holding a Wii U midnight launch.

At first, I thought this was total BS. But think about it: A midnight launch would require the stores to pay their employees extra. And, I guess, they may run out of Wii Us for the morning crowd.

What do you guys think? I sure hope this isn't true, I was looking forward to a midnight launch. (But then again, other stores might hold one.)

I can see this for several reasons:
1) The Wii U and Nintendo is very family centric. At midnight, only gamers are going to be the ones daring to be awake to go to a gamestop and purchase one. Nintendo probably chose to hold back on that, because they wouldn't have their entire audience purchasing at that hour. In short, people expecting to buy during the day may find empty stocks.

2) The recent Dark Knight Rises incident.

3) Gamestop is gay.

Only Gamestop higher ups would know about midnight launches. Also Nintendo not doing midnight launches of systems isn't true. The Nintendo 3DS had a huge launch party for the Nintendo 3DS at Best Buy in Times Square, New York City where Reggie Fils-Aime was there. Heck, if I am right wasn't there a Wii launch at the same Best Buy as well.

Doesn't matter for me if they run out, I learned my lesson with the Wii and I'm pre ordering mine.

I hope GAME does them, they said a few months back that they always do midnight launches for new consoles, i should ask again now that the store is readying its Wii U section already

I normally fall asleep at 4:00 in the morning so it wouldn't be a problem for me but it might be a problem for my parents.

What? This makes absolutely zero sense. The Wii had a massive midnight launch. More recently, the 3DS did so too. For what reason would a Wii U midnight launch be out of the question?

But seriously, maybe he just means that that particular Gamestop isn't having and he said, ''no Gamestops'' on accident ? I'm hoping that this is the case because I was looking forward to getting my Wii U at midnight with my friend. And from what I hear the Gamestop in my town usually has some pretty decent midnight things

I won't believe until Nintendo confirms, I think him saying "I guess it's because Nintendo is a family friendly company" is really stupid, what would that have anything to do with it?, espically because the Wii and 3DS and every other Nintendo system had it.
