IMO, seems a little low, if anything, it'll sell 10 Million this holiday! Or before the end of the Fiscal Year!

I may be wrong, but I thought that they were hoping to sell 4 million this holiday.

I was once known here as KillerMario, but since I really like Banjo-Kazooie, I changed my display name to show them my respect :)

Yeah, and 4 million more Wii's, or something like that, they wanted to sell 8 million Wii U's and Wii's combined before the end of the fiscal year, but with the Wii U being sold out everywhere! I would be surprised if 10 Million Wii U's alone were sold before the end of the fiscal year or Holiday season

Only time will tell...if they ship only 6 million by end of the year...obviously they cant do 10...if they ship 15 mil...i can see them selling that.

I agree with the topic that the sellout seems fishy and more like a marketing tactic. I think the wii u will sell around 5 or 6 million by the end of te fiscal year.

all i want is for the supply to meet demand, what a shame it would be if there was more than 10 million demand but they couldn't make enough in time

Don't forget everyone, these places aren't sold out, their pre order allotment has been met. They'll be on shelves on launch day. Not for long, but they'll be there. It's marketing from both ends because it builds hype, but they want units on shelves on launch day. They don't want to disappoint, and the news will talk about Wii U selling like hot cakes off the shelf as well.

But 10 million in 14 months is a solid, conservative guess. Depends on post holiday momentum and how quickly they can restock shelves.

Normally sales of consoles go high at the beginning, then taper out a bit before going much higher with a price reduction or two later on. We simply don't know how many wii u's can be manufactured for the launch so don't know the potential sales figures. For all we know there is only going to be 3 million available for launch in all regions.

To give you some perspective:

The Wii, which has the record for highest holiday sales in the console market, sold 3.81mil units it's first month.. The Wii sold 20mil in it's first 14 months.
PS3 sold about 7.6mil during it's first 14 months.
XBox sold about the same.

So 10mil would be a good thing for the Wii U, but I'm sure they are aiming for higher.

The thing is if NIntendo comfortably meet demand then it could be seen as a failure as there is still stock on the shelves. To create that huge wii like buzz you want consumers fighting each other for the last boxed wii u to take home for their child for christmas. Something that is difficult to obtain is more desirable. Gold is high priced because we only have a small finite quantitiy available on the planet. If it was as common as iron it would likely be as valuble as iron. I think if Nintendo has predicted 5 million demand for christmas it would actually be in their interest to supply 4.5m not 5.5m into retail channels. Also new years sales can damage the perceived value of goods. If there is a large quantity of wii u's in the sales then people will expect to pay that price after the sales if its discounted.

Nintendo lowballed their estimates and they are going to smash that guidance. That will cause their stock price to soar and will make them look like an "unexpected" runaway success. Again.

these things will sell like hotcakes.

a year ago, people were like "what is Nintendo thinking?"

Now, it's clear as day and everyone wants one.
