What is the largest size memory stick that the Wii U will support? I don't know if Nintendo has shared this with us yet but I couldn't find on the internet or with a search here.

Also, what are most of you all doing for alternate storage-external harddrive (solid state or hard disk), memory stick?

Thanks.

I think you me SD card right, or are you talking about a flash drive. So far you can go as high as you want. I am not 100% sure on SD cards tho. I have a 1tb harddrive which is good enough for me.

Yeah, you've done a great job so far, letting the Metal Heads destroy the palace.

Yes I am talking about flash drives. Flash drives are an option, correct? I think you can get one that is 64GB and that wouldn't take up much space at all.

Firstly Welcome to the forums...secondly Nintendo said the machine can handle up to 3 TB in external form..so id assume if a 3 TB SD card existed...it would work.

Cool. Thanks for your help. Now I need to decide which is the best option for me. Is there a noticable deference in the solid state and hard disk drives as far as speed in loading games? Can you tell a big difference, will it affect gameplay? Thanks.

I'm not sure if it'd make a difference on the Wii U since it only supports USB 2.0?

I would think the max would be 64GB for the SD card, there is no point in going anymore because of the cost, you would be better buying a external HD, you can get a
Western Digital Elements 500GB Portable USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive - Black http://goo.gl/mTUd1 for £50.54 where 128GB SD cards are £100'ish.

I am really surprised that the Wii U isn't USB 3.0 though.

REGGIE ALREADY CONFIRMED 3TB HARDDRIVES SUPPORTED

AND ALL 32GB TO 64GB FLASH CARDS / DRIVES ALSO SUPPORTED

think of it this way 4 x usb 2 slots and a sd card slot thats a whole lot of drives and cards supported as much storage as you like

I remember that IGN did a video a while back about upgrading your PS3's HDD to a SSD. Install times were virtually identical, but the download speeds were much faster. I assume the same thing will happen with the Wii U.

How does all this play into save games?
I know im piggybacking on your thread. But does anyone know how the save system will work or even the dlc to external drives.
I know on the wii you had to install all to the internal memory. you could only move items to external for storing.
I think that system sucks.

it isn't public knowledge yet what the Wii U save interface looks like, but it's safe to say that you will have the option of selecting your storage device, whether internal SSD, or auto-recognized external storage device.

Actually, Reggie said that we could plug in as big of a hard drive as we wanted! He just said 3 TB as an example

I don't really see the point in getting an SD card. I think HDDs can be just as fast?
