You know how you need an update day 1 to get eshop, Miiverse and other features that come with that update? Well, you're going to need another update on Day 1 to be able to play the wii games you own as well.

Now this could actually cause a problem with people who don't have internet.

i am thinking the update should automatically pop up when you put in a wii game into the wii u.

Considering it's major update that you download, I'm sure when you first turn on the Wii U and connect it to the internet it's going to ask you to update. So if you don't have internet you might be, well out of luck.

Seems pointless... Sucks for hackers.

All of the features that are going to be downloadable require internet access... So... You know... It's not a problem...

Be wary, the suck is coming.

The Wii had so many security holes and cracks so the Wii being emulated through software you need to download is just Nintendo trying to be cautious.

That could cause a slight problem for a few people, but not for me, I have a steady internet connection at about 20MB.

I decided to play games or do random stuff on my 3DS until everything's done downloading if it takes a bit of time.

I'm not gonna play Wii games on the Wii U anyway. Gamecube controller support for Brawl and Mario Kart mean too much to me. The Wii U doesn't give Wii games any benefit either: they don't upscale the resolution, you can't play Wii games on the gamepad by itself even though it has a sensor bar, and it still uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection instead of Nintendo Network, meaning games like Brawl and Goldeneye (for me at least) are still gonna be laggy.
