It's the best Mario game in quite a while to me, but I don't know about it being the best since SMW! That'd be tough.

I enjoy it a lot though. The best of the NSMB series, at the very least.

for me, It is without a doubt the best Mario title since Super Mario 64. SNES Super Mario World is a close 2nd. I played galaxy and it was really solid, but I think NSMBUhas the edge for a number of reasons. Note: I never played Galaxy 2 so dont hate me lol.

For starters, its not ALL that important, but NSMBU looks incredible. The hd mario setting is just a pleasure to play. The games world is SO SO traverse. In each of the 9 worlds, there are multiple paths you can take to get places. In fact, at one point in the first slot I created, I had beaten every board there was to beat on the first 4 worlds, but couldnt get anywhere else. I was stuck. I had to go back and search for pathways, and star coins, to open up new pathways to new worlds. I ended up starting a whole new slot and got every coin. Currently on Meringue clouds. The game is not just a 3 hour affair, where u can roll through as quick as you like, and pretty easily beat it. It is somewhat dificult. You need to get the Star Coins to open up new pathways, and to get 3 on each level, is a really challenging task. Not necessarily Extremely difficult, but they make you work for it. Sometimes it may mean going into other worlds to get certain power ups, or mini yoshis to get the ability to reach a specific coin. You will be travelign through each world many times after you beat them. Its not just, Ok on to the next world, done and seeya. The world is so lively with power ups, and other characters etc. Also, the power ups are sooo fun. The cape, iceballs, mini mario, mini yoshis ,they all just come together in the right spots, and make an incredible gaming experience. On top of the incredible "campaign" experience ,there is challenge mode, boost mode etc which in and of itself, is entirely fun. I sat with a buddy last week playing boost mode for 2 hours. Just trying to beat our times, and get gold medals. ITs very addicting. So these modes give you plenty of replay value.

My last note- In thinking across the game so far as Ive played it, im up to meringue clouds, I am kind of excited to do it all over again. As crazy as that sounds, It was such an incredible experience, and JUSt the right kind of challenging, that it has me thinking I may just want to do it all over again immediately when I finish. If that doesnt sell you, I dont know what will lol. If your a fan of the franchise, NSMBU is a MUST HAVE, a no brainer, and imo set a new bar in the Mario World.

I really like NSMBU, it has great level design and is just a blast to play. Now saying that it is better than SMW is easy to do for me as I do not have tons of time with Super Mario World. I recommend that anyone who likes platformers to play this game.

Also, I really liked NSMB2 so I do not understand all the hate against the series in general.
