Hello guys.
I have a question. I've just got my Wii U and I can't wait to set things up.
My question is regarding the GamePad... Can I use the gamepad while it's charging for the first time? I don't want to reduce my battery life, so yeah.

Thanks for the help!

its always recomended to do a full charge on electronics first if anyone else wants to chime in feel free my system will be here soon the smart me says wait and charge the controller first the stupid me says just use it while its plugged in charging but I want to eliminate all chances of screwing up this expensive system.

I know where you are coming from. For example, a brand new laptop. They always say that if you want to use the system right away, to remove the battery amd plug it in the outlet. If not, charge the battery for 12 hours. That's why I'm asking for the WiiU Gamepad. Does it have the same mechanics or it's OK to use it as it charges.

EDIT

If nobody knows for sure, I'll call Nintendo directly and ask them. They didn't mention anything about it in the manuals.

Same as anything else you trully want to charge it fully befor using it.
Did i no.
It was the first thing i pulled out and plug it up and started charging it after i put the screen protector on.
Then hook up the system and went through the setup.
Download the update and docked it till that finish.
Then play my games for about 4-5hrs. The gamepad started to blink.
Then put it on the dock n turn off the system till it was fully charged.
Plsy another game for about 20mins and then back on the dock it sat all night.

Also either way in a few months your start seeong replacement battiess so its not a big deal like the ps3.

OK, I contacted Nintendo. The lady that answered me also said that it was a good question. haha. She said that I can use it while it's charging but she said to do NOT disconnect from power until it's fully charged for the first time. Of course, it'll take longer to charge if you use it.

Olden days rechargeable batteries had a "memory" and would harden up, if you charged them before they were empty, or didn't fully charge them, it would "remember" this and think it was fully charged.

Nowadays batteries run on cycles, so they have a total amount of full charge and depletes, which is unaffected no matter when you charge them.

It shouldn't really matter, probably just making sure.

You can also play while it's charging as well just like the xbox and ps3 controllers.
