Curious. I'm no software developer, but I can use common sense. If the Wii U's CPU is "horrible" and "slow", how come Activision was able to port over Black Ops 2 with improved textures @ 60 fps? How is Ubisoft able to convert Assassin's Creed 3 to the Wii U with similar graphical improvements? Keep in mind that these two titles are launch titles, meaning they would have the least amount of time to get the game ready for the system's launch.

Perhaps all developers are not equal in terms of skill dealing with new hardware?

you all still dont understand the point of the wii u, the main goal of the wii u is to have a small case and to minimize the power consumption, the wiiu uses around 30W of power ( the latest ps3 model about 100W the first ps3 model 200W ), more GHZ and MHZ of speed on the cpu and ram = more Watts needed to increase the speed = more Watts usage also means more heat in the system which means you need a bigger case for a better cooling to not overheate the inside of the box with a more than probable melt/failure of the chips like happened with the 360 RROD

thats why the wii u is small and has low power consumption, and thats why the 360/ps3 are bigger than the wii u and probable the next xbox/ps will be bigger too

Wiiu uses 45 watts minimum, 75 watts is maximum. But, your logic is sound.

Well, graphics are handled by the gpu, not the cpu.

I believe that the PS4/720 won't be that giant of a leap over the Wii U for that reason. If you're going to put in a monster CPU and graphics card, how do you cool it without the console sounding like a Jetliner (which the 360 did during the first two revisions, yet still overheated) or the size of the console ballooning to the point that it could be a mini-ATX tower?

Honestly I think we're nearing the limit of what consoles can do in terms of raw power without drastically increasing the overall size.

The thing with these Rumors (which I don't really believe) is that they are stating the wiiu is weaker than the ps3 and 360 and sadly most are believing that (Lots would of still believe that without those rumors as well) and points to things such as Black Ops 2 shadows on the wiiu and how they are lower resolution but Ignores that its also running at a higher resolution and the other improvements that the wii U had .

thats why they have reduced all these speeds of the chips, and thats why the 360/ps3 are bigger than the wii u and probably the next xbox/ps will be bigger too because will use alot of more electricity and will have more CPU GPU and RAM speed

also nintendo reported that the wii u produces 3 times more heat the the original wii, because of that they made the better design possible to cool all the system and prevent overheating, they also said that they made over 2000 heat test for the wii u to ensure that its reliable

they said it in the "iwata ask: wii u" when they showed the insides of the wii u hardware:

What we learn from this discussion is the main objectives Nintendo set out to achieve with the Wii U hardware. They were:

  • A console focused on HD content and output
  • Very low power use
  • As small a console as possible
  • Backwards compatibility

In a nutshell the wii u is a: small, efficient games console.

but as far as i know, they are using other "hardware tricks" to compensate all this with the eDRAM and the GPGPU, but im not a tech guy so i dont really know how much can offer this hardware, but like we heard before, games build from the ground for the wii u should look better than anything on the 360/ps3 (with effort and work ofc lol).

in theory yes, but the latest report from eurogamer says that while playing NSMBU the console was consuming only 33W and around 29W in the menus with no disc

Yeah, I didnt remember my statement correctly either. Iwata said AVERAGE power draw was 45watts, not minimum. Doesnt surprise me nsmbu would put a below average strain on the system.

THough Im pretty sure everyone expects there to be less power drawn when a games not being played,

Heh, I wonder if Iwata gave those 45 watt specifications before Nintendo decided they werent going to power any of the usb drives to save even more power.

if you ask me.. why all that focus on a small console and power consumption? i dont know, i prefer a little bit bigger but more powerful console i dont understand that obsesion with the size lol

but make no mistake, if the console is not more powerful its because they wanted it be as small as possible and low power consumption as possible.

I dont think the 2011 e3 demos where true, many people claimed, that the demos run through a pc, behind the scenes and not an actual devkit... it was a marketing little lie... that will end up in a huge hoax... In the other hand, we all know that THQ got financial problems and they want to keep up the customers in the platforms they support... 360 and ps3.

prove it.

Their is no reason for them not to be on the wiiu I mean the demo's weren't all that great and they was all running in 720p and some with no AA.

can we all agree to just wait for 1 of two things. 1. the next year of games built from ground up and nintendo 1st party offerings..... or 2 a real teardown from a respected site with xrays on parts to give us FACTUAL numbers. the second one isnt likely as everything in the whole console is CUSTOM! i just refuse to believe nintendo with all their years of knowledge and making balanced hardware will just lay a goose egg like this and F us over. i have to stick with its different architecture that developers havent figured out yet. to play devils advocate... what if the Wii U was developed with architecture far superior than what we think and in two years time is pulling off games like watchdgs and star wars 1313?

Orion is not a hater, hes just highly emotional and easily manipulated.

Hes gone from being super excited and WAAAAAYYYY over shooting the capabilities of the wii u, to down in the dumps, and then back up to over estimating the system through like, several cycles now. Crazy rumours have made it a rough ride for him.

So I need a shrink, thats what you mean? HAHAHAHA

Yes I trusted the rumors, not what nintendo did with their hardware in the past... but thats ok.. if wii U proves to be "ok" I will buy it when they reduce the price in a few years.. till then I pc my self.

Since it was brought up again, I'll answer: it's because of the extra memory and faster gpu. But the slow cpu could still cause a hindance in some games.
