I agree with Fieryguns about the spam thing. If you're the only person ( or only active person) in chat, and you spam. Who exactly are you bothering? Sure, spamming alone is pointless, but some due it to keep themselves entertained or something. Spamming in the middle of a conversation is obviously an offense. But why is spamming alone wrong? Was Fieryguns banned for spamming in chat, but nobody was there? Spamming alone isn't hurting chat, and it's certainly not bothering anyone if nobody else is active/there. Plus, people have done much worse stuff than some who have been banned, but didn't get banned.

Now that's hardly appropriate behaviour for this forum.
Aren't most people in chat under 18?

I really don't understand why some forums don't censor the word dick.

9/10 times it's used as an insult to someone, or as an abuse of the censor to say turkey or pegasus generator.

It's probably down to the fact mods can't see if anyone else is online or not, or at least that's what I hope.

If it's not that then the only thing I can think of is special treatment.

It might be down to the fact that everything typed in the chat is saved to the hosts log and you are basically filling it up needlessly.  That is the only reason I could think of.

I noticed how this forum now favors some over others. Sounds a lot like 3DSF if you ask me.

Always make meaningful chat messages. If you don't have anything to add to a discussion, don't send a message like "I don't know what to say" or something just to get attention. Your message will only get deleted. We'd like to avoid enforcing a specific word or character limit, if possible. This rule also acts against conversation necromancy - do not bring up an old topic of conversation if it has become irrelevant (e.g.: a conversation speculating about Blu-ray playback after it has been confirmed not to be a feature of the Wii U), and especially if you've got nothing to add to it (e.g.: you're only talking to say "the thing doesn't play Blu-ray's," or something along the lines of that).

Always be respectful of others and their opinions. No personal attacks, hateful/racist comments, flame wars, etc. It won't be tolerated. Emotional debates are fine, but hating someone just because they think the PSP is better than the DS is simply irrational.

No swearing. Minor curse words like "crap" and "hell" are fine, but the S-word and F-bomb are strictly taboo. Appropriate substitutes like "snit" and "funk" may be used freely, though. If you swear, don't be surprised if your words are replaced with embarrassing things like unicorns or rainbows.

Please write your messages in understandable English. You don't need to be perfect, and I won't even enforce capitalization; but basic punctuation and diction are a must. We want to keep the chat as readable as possible so you don't need to waste time deciphering aposttahtluksliektis.

Don't advertise your website on this site outside of your signature and the designated URL field on your profile. Status updates, chat messages, and forum threads/posts made to promote your site will be removed unless you have received express permission from the administration to advertise your site here.

Keep it appropriate. This means no posting pornographic or fetishistic images or content; no racism, sexism, or otherwise derogatory behaviour towards ethnic groups or other members - you get the gist of it. This isn't 4chan, after all.

Only one account per person! If you wish to change your username, you can do so from your user CP. Members caught with or suspected of having multiple accounts may have all but one of their accounts deleted or merged. We use the IP address logs to determine whether you have more than one account, so if another member of your household signs up, please do us a favour and send the moderation team a message about it.

No bashing, insulting, or otherwise pointlessly slandering Nintendo or their competitors. We're a community of respectful Nintendo fans. If you're here only to talk trash, don't even bother joining. That said, blind fanboyism (be it of Nintendo or any other company) will not be tolerated, either - if you've got something negative to say about any of the big three, it's fine to do so as long as it's phrased constructively and you know what you're talking about.

Discussion of piracy and ways to obtain, create, or play ROM's/ISO's is strictly forbidden.

Them's the rules.

Sadly so many people can get by with this stuff.

And there also needs to be a no flirting or sex talk rule. If you want to do whatever on Skype feel free but this isn't the place for it. Nuff said.

I agree.

I got a warning point for posting "this topic already exists" and a link to the original topic. Yet I've seen lots of people do the same thing and they are never punished or warned nor is their post removed. Why is that? Should we start reporting people for doing this?

We should report the admins for not having enough active admins/mods.

Nothing's wrong with flirting.

Grinding is where I draw the line, personally.

The chatbox is extremely hard to moderate.  We expect you all to follow the rules, but of course you don't.

The situation comes down to this:  I am really the only mod who visits the chat several times.  I go in to chat or solve issues.  I am typically not around when certain events happen or when the users break the rules.  In the past users actually reported others for breaking the rules in chat, but not so much anymore.  When I get messaged about something, I have to find a way to figure things out and solve it.  The mods cannot view the chat logs and can only ban while in chat (and if the perpetrating user is there).  The admins can view the chat log and ban users outside of chat.

At times I had to resort to using a dupe account to watch a user just so I could catch him and justify giving him a chatban (I logged out, then back in again in my main account).

There really is only one punishment for chat, and that is a chatban.

Should we start reporting people for doing this?

Yes.  That would help.  That is why feldo updated the report feature and why it is more noticeable.

entrapment!

Also, that's against the rules. trollface.

I noticed the report buttons and stuff have all gone back to before, what do?

I liked it when the button was red and it had a dropdown list.

I know, but how else should I have acted?  I had to get proof one way or another.

I just noticed that too.  I don't know what happened, I preferred the red dropdown as well.

Also, on your post in the other thread, I don't think us members get agitated that mods can't spend all day on the forum, I think we look around and only see you in the user list for the past week and go ":(".

No i mean report someone for pointing out a duplicate thread in a post. I got a warning point for it, therefore it must be against the rules. Yet i see loads of other people still do it and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I typically just merge or lock dupe threads, If the users report them that's great.  Your warning point was due to backseat moderation.
