Today ive had 4 hard locks AFTER another update. I was getting them before this too , like alot of other users. Only twice mind , and always in the notifications , messages menu screen in miiverse. However , today my internet has been really glitchy and sluggish. So now with 4 lock ups today im wondering if this is some clue as to why the Wii U has had these issues? What speed is your internet? Is it wired or wifi? And have you had any lock ups either in game or in menus?

So far, I've had 4 lockups before the update (I've had my Wii U since the NA launch). 3 of them happened in the browser while watching youtube. The last one happened while playing Sonic Racing, but that is the game's fault for being so glitchy. After the update, I haven't had any since. I have Verizon Fios Internet, wireless.

I'm knocking on wood, but I haven't had any issues with freezing or locking up, either before or after the update. I have Comcast Xfinity broadband service, which is usually pretty stable and strong. It's a WiFi connection, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you can connect the Wii U to wired internet. I could be wrong, it wasn't something I tried to do.

You can use a wired Ethernet connection by using a USB LAN adapter.

I have the USB LAN adapter and haven't had one lock up,maybe I'm just lucky.I must also ad that the updates have been fairly quick as well including the launch day update.

At this stage after 6 days had 8 freezes and it can't be due to internet speed as we have 50meg.Love the tech just feel there are lots of things need ironed out.I don't expect to pay 330 pounds for tech with a glitchy OS I wouldn't accept it from a phone laptop or tablet.Again I like the tech but these issues need remedied quickly.

Having 50meg doesn't mean your Internet is actually reliable. So it could still be issues accessing the Nintendo servers ESPECIALLY if its over wireless and have other networks nearby using the same channel.

i'd definitely suggest this as Ethernet dropouts are rare, good way to isolate between the connection and router too.

Alex I'm sorry but I'm sure the net I have is reliable, low latency good signal.I manually adjusted to be on a diff channel to my neighbours ages ago.Anyway even though the thread title is what it is, I don't see any proof that's that what's causing the issues people are having.Latest issue I am having is the gamepad losing connection to the Wii u from 5 feet away. Connection unstable etc.Not an issue with any of the other wireless equipment in the house so HAS to be Wii u hardware/software related

what type of router protocol is your router/modem model? 802.11x?

like blooper said it could be many things other than the update itself such as the overall network setup/settings/connection.

probe to see if there are many other wireless networks in the vicinity; changing the wireless 2.4ghz channel to 8 on my router ended up with a stable network connection and were more reliable due to potential wireless interference.

according to the tech specs: http://www.nintendo....res/tech-specs/

wii u is compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n range, pretty much most routers but if you are using an older type, update the firmware as well

Router is a new bthome hub 3 supporting bgn WiFi.I don't think its the update s I think its the hardware/software/firmware.Like the console dislike the bugs.To be honest I expect better stability from a 2012 consumer electronics product.Really hope its the firmware

i'd say most likely too. i havent had intermittent freezing at all on my xbox360 but just experienced a couple about half an hour ago on the Wii U... frustrating
