well i cant argue with nintendo from a business standpoint on this. im not sure how much the fees are to add this support. i will argue people saying people have dvd players and wont use it. i call BS MAJOR BS. My friend just got a divorce and wife took everything except game console... guess what he is using to watch his dvd's????? almost every gamer i know uses their ps360 for dvd playback. just like the cell phone makers... why add voice navagation on a phone. thats one less product people have to buy and now you see garmin and these in car GPS makers going out of business. its the all in one effect. give the consumer a product they can get everything accomplished on just in case they want to use that feature they will have it. i know for a fact i would use the Wii U as dvd player if i could.

I suspect you and your friend are in the minority. Like I said adding DVD functionality would add to the cost which would no doubt be passed on to the consumer. I very much doubt that many people would use the functionality. I certainly don't want to pay extra for it as I wouldn't use it. I've already got four devices connected that play DVD's and I don't need another one.

can u install codecs on wii U? Players? such us VLC...? if so, then u can rip blu rays on an external hdd and watchthem via it..

if wii U accepts applications to be installed, then it will be a matter of time for hackers to create a wii U blu ray player.. hehe

Why do so many people still watch up scanned DVD on a high tech 1080p tv when Bluray is way more advanced? That's like watching the sd version of a channel on tv knowing that an he version is available

For most people its not practical or cost effective to replace their in some cases large collection of DVD's with bluerays.
