Hi everybody
googling around and reading many forums about wii u i've noticed that no one seems interested to play his own video/music/picture using WII U
!
nobody put this feature in his top list.
Before purchasing console i hoped to be fully DLNa compliant but nintento seems to not be interested on that!!
So I live in Italy where Tviii is not active till now but there also a lack in the streaming media providers like Netflix Hulu etc.
I think if nintendo want wii u as a centre of home entertiment must have to fix this!!
your Opinion???
thanks Jordan

Nintendo has never been one to include such features in their consoles and I doubt they're going to start now. Personally I don't care for such features and if I did I could use them through my PS3 or my Mac which is connected to my home entertainment system. I don't think any should expect or think they are entitled to such features in a games console. I very much doubt Nintendo is going to provide such features either. At the end of the day the primary and really only thing important in buying a games console is the games playing aspect.

Hi Gamejunkie
i agree with you about nintendo but excluding to play owner content seems a nonsense!
i've a NAS with all my media and i can stream it with a cheap tablet or smartphone.i've a dedicated pc running a mediacenter for playng my movie collection and music but i want to cut off many device as possible...in my livingroom ; having only one could be a great bargain (and help the sales for nintendo !)
Nintendo always made half step in any direction!!
i'm waiting for Tviii in Italy and i really don't know how they can get it in my country where netflix and amazon or hulu are'n very common :-(

It plays html5 videos in h264 with (I think) theora audio.
There are solutions to stream your videos to such formats which do work in the browser.

I'm waiting for someone to post good clear tutorials, because I'm too lazy to do it all myself. Hopefully something easy like a one click install like video9 or whatever it was for psp.

Its not something consoles are particularly great at. The 360 is useless for that sort of thing and the PS3 has some limitation with regard formats. I'm watching 'one piece' episodes currently but they are MKV and the PS3 just says unsupported data. I was watching a rip of the new spiderman film and the cineavia protection kicked in and prevented me watching it, it muted the sound.

Consoles are generally a bit rubbish at this sort of thing. The PS3 is closest to working properly but still annoying and it forces you to need other hardware due to limited file compatibility. My mother has a Sony blu-ray player which supports more formats than the ps3.

If the wii u gets hacked it will probably end up being a superb media centre system but its not going to happen in a legit way especially with Nintendo wanting to get revenue from netflix etc.

I bought a Wii U to play video games. If I had to guess, the lack of features like this (and DVD/Blu-ray support) is what keeps Nintendo's systems from costing $500 at launch.

That argument might work if Nintendo weren't making such a big deal out of TVii. They clearly want people to think of the Wii U as a media center for the main TV, but without DLNA streaming they aren't even close.

That said with the lag going from section to section of the OS I wouldn't trust them to make a working DLNA system anyway.

I wonder if their more open policy for apps on Wii U will allow a third-party address this particular need?

Personally I use my Sony Bluray player and/or my TV itself, both which support MKV but seem to have their own little preferences (some files work on one but not the other). However I would be tempted by a Wii U solution if it turned up as there is always room for improvement.

As said above, the Xbox 360 solution is a joke and quite frankly the PS3 isn't all that much better. I find it bizarre that their Bluray players support more formats than the PS3, makes no sense at all.
