As much as I didn't want it to happen, just like the Wii, when you turn it on without a disc inside of it; it sounds like a bunch of gears clinking up against each other for like 5 or 6 seconds. This really bothers me. With the Wii I just put a disc inside of it as quickly as possible. Is it safe to keep a disc inside of it when you turn it off? I need some help with this.

It should be fine. I always left my discs in the console and all of them are still fine...

Should be, disc holding devices are designed to hold discs inside them.

What does it matter if its a bit noisy on bootup? I actually find it reassuring as you know the console is actually working.

My pet hate is how I have to EJECT a disc from the Wii U if I watch Netflix or use Miiverse for a long time, as the noise of the drive constantly spinning gets on my nerves. Also the disc constantly spinning causes more heat and risks wearing the drive out quicker.

Wait a minute, the drive activates for no reason? Oh come on.

This os can not be ironed out fast enough.

Okay....no need to make a smart arse comment. I was just asking to make sure it was safe. Besides, I don't think it says anywhere in the manual that it's okay to leave the discs in the Wii U, that's why I was asking. -_-

yep checks to see if disk is in it when starting. buy why are you keeing the disk in when shutting down. lazy I take it. besides being a little slow the os works great.
