Was gonna download AC3 from the ESHOP today, but at that price they can feck right off! You can get it for £35 in some stores or online if you shop around, I was only doing eshop coz no buses are running today near me so I can't get into town, why Ninty why?? Who's going to be daft enough to dl it at that price? At this rate I'm never gonna be getting any wiiu games off the eshop. Was looking forward to playing that n'all.
I hear voices in my head all the time, telling me what to do. But I just ignore them and carry on killing.

And you're surprised by this why ? Honestly you must have been living under a rock for the past few years. This isn't the first time a digital version of a retail game costs more then the physical copy. It's typical of most digital retail games on all console platforms. I'm not saying its right or justifiable but It's normal. Apart from the fact that publishers don't want to p**s off the retailers there are certain market forces that dictate retail prices that cannot affect digital downloads. Besides you're also paying for the convenience. As you say you can't get into town and they're offering you a way to get it right away. Anyway where have you seen it in local retail for that price. Everywhere I've looked it's at least £45.

Why would you even want a digital download like that anyway? If you buy the retail version you get to play it and then sell it on. You may lose some of its value but it will be significantly cheaper. Also its been reported that Nintendo don't have a robust system of linking game purchases with your nintendo account so if your wii u goes faulty you could lose the cost of your purchase. Not forgetting you need to store the game on built in memory.

Lastly its been reported wii u console sales have dropped off a fair bit since launch and wii u sales figures for software has been low. It's likely many titles will be further discounted at retail in the next month or so and Nintendo may even be forced into an early price reduction (hopefully early adopters will get some sort of compensation like myself perhaps a full price game download).

I don't understand why any sane person would buy a full game download for any of the consoles, 360, PS3 or wii u unless they are seriously rich and don't need to think about saving money. The game could be down to £20 at retail in a month or so either new or pre-owned.

It's the same on all consoles for the most part. One exception is first party games on the Vita being $5 less on the PSN.

easy vote with your wallet if people dont buy them they will more than likely be forced to adjust the prices in line with retail.

wii u premium, new super mario bros u, darksiders 2, call of duty black ops 2, zombiu

That's just one more reason why I don't buy digital download games.

Crazy price. I would only consider a digital download if it was 20% less than a retail version. Almost everybody trades in games these days don't they?

I also agree that the Wii U will have to suffer a price drop by summer, the 3DS only took off when it had a price drop and when the big hitting games appeared for it. I think Wii U might have to adopt a similar tactic.

All companies do this. They tend to sell at retail price for everything. Like someone else has said, you pay for the convenience.

I'm just hoping that we get sales on the WiiU. It would be way too much for me to ask for a Playstation Plus service, so I'll take the next best thing in price drops. I don't have a 3DS but what's the precedent there? Anyone know?

At this stage, I'd settle for the price to be the same as retail. Right now, I can buy a game for $70-80 Australian in retail, but it will be $100 on the e-shop. So I'm stuck with an archaic system of buying physical copies of the games I want just because of offensive pricing models on the download service.

As for convenience, it's a 5 minute drive to my local shopping mall. I could probably be there and back by the time a lengthy download has completed. Secondly, there's nothing convenient about lending a downloaded game to someone as it involves unplugging my WiiU and veing without the console for a week instead of simply handing them a disk. And finally, transferring all my Virtual Console games to my Wii U was a nightmare, and I dread to think about transferring Wii U games to it's predecessor.

My point is, yes, there is some convenience but it's hardly a solid excuse for the mark up. It is very "convenient" for Nintendo to have their software permanently accessible for consumers via a download service. The savings on distribution costs and cutting out the middle man is also very "convenient". And, the inevitable deconstruction of the used-game market that a disk-less future will bring is is yet another "convenience".
