CVG Rumor: Sony to abandon DualShock design for PS4, unveiling PS4 in weeks

A senior games studio source working on an upcoming Sony game says the new system's controller has undergone numerous iterations, few of which resemble the DualShock build that has become synonymous with PlayStation.

Experiments within Sony's R&D department are thought to have been extensive. Versions of the new PS4 pad include biometric sensors on the grips and an LCD touch screen, the development source claimed.

A second source, working in a separate part of the industry but still connected to Sony, said PlayStation engineers are "trying to emulate the same user interface philosophies as the PS Vita". This is likely a reference to the touch-screen capabilities of the PlayStation handheld, and a suggestion that Sony will tightly integrate its portable and home systems.

The new console - codenamed Orbis - will be revealed in a matter of weeks, not months.


Sony has declined to comment.

Part of me doesn't believe this, but at the same time, this IS the future of the industry. I really wouldn't be surprised if you could also use the Vita as a PS4/Orbis controller.

Some people always have a cellphone on them. I'm so awesome I always have a 3DS.

Part of me doesn't believe this, but at the same time, this IS the future of the industry. I really wouldn't be surprised if you could also use the Vita as a PS4/Orbis controller.

Would be cool. Less controllers to buy lol.
But u can beat that sony will try to copy the wii u game pad in some way, shape, or form.

Somehow it seems legit. I think because Sony usually steals stuff from Nintendo.

They're going to keep the dualshock, but they are goi g to make it different in some way. Probably going to add a screen, and fanboys are going to say they have been developing it before the wii u was announced even though Nintendo started working on the Wii U in 2007.

Didn't sony show off a circle controller for the ps3 and then chicken out and just make a dualshock 3?

Lately Sony seems to be at it's best when they are ripping Nintendo's ideas ( PS all Stars, LBP karting, etc.)

But yeah seems legit, i predicted that they were going to copy Nintendo anyway with the touch screen . I say this because of recent rumors of the Wii U and Ps4 sharing many games, while the new Xbox has different titles. This might mean that the xbox is more powerful with much different tech inside.

When nintendo showed their gamepad at e3 2k11, i told everyone i knew " watch, ms and sony will follow suit" they say: "noooo, sony and ms aren't gonna do anything stupid'......

Here are my predictions.
1.Nextbox:All of their systems are usually defective and the fanboys are to brainwashed to realize it and persist to replace them thus giving them more sells.

2.Wii U:With all the rumored IPs they are bound to be a sleeper hit! And BTW they suck for banning me!

3.Orbis:This system seems promising...But it still probably wont win.

4.Steambox:I cant see it taking off like a console.

5.Ouya:Dont get me started!

Those are my predictions for sales.
