I had a Wii that I hocked awhile back.
I am interested in re-downloading virtual console games like Zelda II, Startropics, River City Ransom, etc.
Will I be able to play them with the Gamepad? I know there's going to be a update that will let you transfer them to the Gamepad screen, but what I'm asking right now is, will I have to buy a Wii remote and Classic controller to play these games, or will I be able to play them with the included Wii U gamepad?

right now you can't play Wii games with the gamepad, no retail and no vc.

i googled some more and i guess that will change soon. I kind of want to play River City Ransom while I watch bad television. So I'll have to buy a Wiimote, then...

It will change soon. Once the game is on the Wii U Virtual Console, you will be able to buy it with a reduced price. NES games are $1 and SNES are $1.50. You will be able to create suspend points, assign button layouts, play on the gamepad, and have miiverse communities.

I have neither 3ds nor Wii anything right now until tax return comes, soon, I'm debating hard but I think I would like to play the virtual console games on the Gamepad at home. I'm still not sure if I should get the deluxe or the regular Wii U yet.
