I know the goal of a dev is to make money but everything is getting out of hand. Many game companies are either suffering right now or asking to. All because the money they make never seems to be enough for them. From season passes to trying to kill the used game industry this needs to stop. Discuss your opinion on this.
Everyone needs money, but with the amazingly high costs of creating a big AAA game these days I think a lot of devs are going for the obvious shooter because they know it's going to sell well.
Maybe they could make a smaller game with less flashy graphics to see if there is a market for that game.
I don't think any companies (except maybe microsoft and the COD devs) are really THAT greedy, they're just afraid of making something that isn't an already proven formula.
Just my take on it, anyway.

Sure Capcom puts tons of on disc DLC on some games and releases 3 versions of the same game (*cough* Street Fighter 4 *cough*) But at the same time they will release a game like Resident Evil: Revelations or Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate.
And Activision will spam the market with CoD and Skylanders (which are all cash cows), but sometimes they will publish a game like Geometry Wars and we will absolutely love it. (And yes, I know they shut Bizarre Studios down)
Square Enix will release twenty $20 iOS ports but then they come out with a game like Kingdom Hearts 3D, Bravely Default (which still isn't coming west as of yet, grr), and Hitman. And we like those games.
And EA will screw us over with micro-transactions and Online Passes, but they will also release really fun games like Mirror's Edge, Battlefield 3, and the Mass Effect series.
I know these are only a few examples, and they are all publishers, but it shows that it isn't all bad, and there is still great content being made. We just see a lot of the negative.
In short, yes, there is a lot of greed involved in a lot of games, but there are still gems among crap.

There needs to be a zen balance between money making and product quality though.GREED is the bane of industry PERIOD if we didnt have greed things would be cheaper and CEO's would get paid a bunch less thus allowing all workers as a whole to get paid more, not to mention more jobs

People need to understand the difference between PUBLISHERS, bethseda, ea, thq, activision etc, and developers.
Its not so much greed, but fear and a general lack of hootzpah.
Publishers have pigeonholed themselves into this position, by marketing the fake definition buzzword AAA to mean 'good game' instead of its actual definition, of 'a certain allotted budget amount'.
They pavlovically groomed 'hardcore' gamers to only consider what was spoonfed to them as 'aaa' as even worth looking at, and the end result after so many years is games HAVE to be AAA blockbusters, or they are nothing.
That is an impossible business model to sustain, making a single non smash hit, or simply not releasing frequently enough (yearly installments anyone?) enough to put companies out of business.
This business model is finally beginning to self destruct, as evidenced by the third party publishers now dropping like flies.
The wind of change has finally began to blow again. Its been so long, i nearly forgot what it felt like.
I will remember this as the 'dark ages' of gaming.

How about they just stop and listen to what the gamers actually want.
Because that wasnt nearly as profitable as telling gamers what they wanted.

It's not greed, just over-spending.

Exactly. Gaming should be a mutualism between companies and gamers. No one should be screwed over. How about they just stop and listen to what the gamers actually want.
I agree with that too.Microsoft is the definition of greed. Activision comes in second IMO
Gaming isnt doomed as long as there are still companies like Nintendo that aint ripping us off left and right.Publishers. PUBLISHERS.
