I had no idea what this was until a friend showed me one he did, which I won't be posting here. It was funny to those of us who know him, but to anyone else it would just be disturbing (lets just say that his idea of a fun weekend activity would be considered complete and total social suicide to the average human being). Odds are this'll die out within the month.

(Video 1, Video 2) It started with one of these two videos. It should be noted that "Harlem Shake" is the name of the meme. The actual dance involves the jerking and pivoting of the shoulders.

(Video 1, Video 2) These are example of the actual Harlem Shake. If anyone knows KPOP, Ye Eun of the Wonder Girls did the Harlem Shake during her small dance solo in Like This.

Hope this clears up everything. I remember in Junior High, there would be crowded circles where in the middle, some of the students would dance. It was often freestyling with tutting and the Harlem Shake. It's a shame to see it overshadowed and misrepresented. :[

I'm fine with the Harlem Shake, it can certainly get annoying ( people at my school always request they do the Harlem Shake in choir, and people sometimes randomly shout " Do the Harlem Shake") in the sense of people going crazy about it. But it's just a dance, I'm fine with that. But the dance itself just confuses me. It's stated that it's " dances involving the movement of the upper body", meaning that it's not even a singular dance. Plus when I see these videos, I just see people going crazy. I'd rather label the Harlem Shake as a flash mob more than anything.
