#44416 Your favorite video game character?

Posted by Jumbo Worm on 29 November 2011 - 12:46 PM

Earthworm Jim: Crazy, wacky, and unique design that sparked my creativity when I as younger. I really liked his cartoon personality too.

Dr. Robotnik/Eggman: This guy is just awesome. He is goofy and funny, while still retaining the evil nature he needs to be a villain. Seriously, he defeated Super Sonic, and blew up the Earth. He chained up and held whole planets hostage. He has almost wiped out existence, and for what? To build Eggmanland, which he basically did in Sonic Unleashed (It's the final level).

Dry Bones: I really can't explain this one very well. He just stands out from other enemies for me.

#44233 Similarities.

I notice the similarities too. The Wii is like the NES of our generation. Hopefully if everything goes right, the Wii U will be the SNES of our generation.

#44146 How will the PS4 or the the new xBox will affect the WiiU?

Posted by Rasvita on 27 November 2011 - 07:55 PM

To the best of my knowledge, we don't really know anything about the next consoles from Microsoft and Sony (Please correct me if I am wrong).  We don't even know everything about the Wii U.  Without that knowledge, it is very difficult to say what will happen.  I'm pretty sure that the Wii U will do fine unless the other consoles end up being super awsometastically grandfabulistic.  I really have to know more about the consoles before I can say much more than that.

#42606 Wii U predictions

Posted by Thugbrown on 18 November 2011 - 09:41 PM

Nintendo has a pattern I find it repeating in terms of it's console.  I've noticed that Nintendo likes to innovate then expand on power with innovation.  It did that with the NES which was innovative during it's time with the plus control pad new take in platform style gaming then Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) gave us 16 bit first but the SNES was a power house in terms of grahics in the 90's and trumped a lot of MD games in terms of grahics plus brought us some fancy mode7 fx for some psuedo 3D.  Then Nintendo moves fully to 3D gaming and introduces analog control and later down the road rumble.  Nintendo was inovating with the N64  bringing us some industry firsts for console gaming and game play for that time.  When GCN came along it was all about competing directly with the competetion so nintendo's focus were once again back on the graphics and the GCN did give us some great looking games that still look good today (Rouge Leader & RE4 I'm looking at you) it main focus was to compete with the PS2 but a thrid horse entered the competition that Nintendo wasn't counting on to succeed.  With the Wii Nintedo once again took the route of innovation and gave us a new way to play games and bring gaming to the masses so we can have mom, dad, and the grandparents playing along too while bringing back intrest back on their products.  Now we are in the last days of the Wii waiting for the Wii U and it appears Nintendo is ready to compete again.  I believe Nintendo is going to have some serious power under the hood of the Wii U and if not on par being first out the gate it will probably be close to the newer systems on the way from Sony and Microsoft in terms of graphics.  I believe that Wii U is going to give us some emersive and deep gaming experiences and can't wait to see what this system can so when in the right hands of some of the world's best developers.  What are Your Thoughts and Predictions?

#42602 Wii U power

Posted by Wertville on 18 November 2011 - 08:50 PM

again respectfully disagree. truth is there is a majority of people that want the best tech even reggie of nintendo stated this. sony was able to have legs to stand on this gen because they had the most powerful console and thus the best look or i should say graphically advanced games. i just dont see sony abandoning those fans. but it could be microsoft that has the most powerful console next gen like they did with xbox1.

I think he was referring to losing the entirety of the earnings made by the PS1 and PS2, both underpowered consoles.

#42097 Super Mario 3D Land promoting animal cruelty?

Posted by Wertville on 14 November 2011 - 03:27 PM

Actually a Tanooki is a real animal, it basically is Japanese for a Raccoon Dog.

It's a mythological raccoon-like creature that can change it's shape. Hence why Tanooki mario can become a statue. (Not sure if that's in SM3DL, though :P) They are also very shady and tricky, hence why Tom Nook is considered one.

To the PETA thing... I honestly think this is reverse-psychological propaganda by Nintendo.
"Lol, what's this new PETA thing about?"
"Somn to do with Mario Land 3D and the Tanooki suit."
"Wait... The Tanooki suit is in SM3DL!!!????"
*Goes and buys game*

#41937 Wii U Hard drive

Posted by Crackkat on 13 November 2011 - 12:52 PM

Actually, the easiest solution is the one they're using... Let them use any non-proprietary external hard-drive. Who cares if it comes with 30GB internal memory when you can just buy a 200 GB external for ~$50? (Which will get much cheaper by this time next year, so more like 400 GB for ~$50)

EDIT: Found a 1.5TB drive for $70. Memory is cheap.

no it would be cheaper to buy a wii u with a larger hard drive built in due to the economics of it. nintendo having them built in will be cheaper since nintendo will get a massive discount because they will buy in bulks ie ten million in one purchase. that makes it cheaper for them than for us to buy an external hard drive for wii u. having two models of wii u (one with, one without) would be the best way to go.

Doesnt anyone remember when nintendo was making earthbound 64? They should continue that with the wiiU

#41559 What will Wii U game covers look like?

Posted by Caius Casshern Sins on 10 November 2011 - 11:53 AM

i think they should go for a game box that appeals a little more to the hard core than the wii ones did. i hate saying hard core and casual but since the majority of people are stupid, nintendo will have to play to their stupid judgements. they should at least change the boxes in some way to significantly differentiate wii u from wii so people who dont look this stuff up online really get a feel that theres a new console and not just more of the same casual game dominated wii sections in game shops.
red boxes would be awesome in my opinion so its better for hard core but wont put off the casual like black would

I would love Red, because it is my favorite color. I agree they do have to make it different from the Wii Case.

#41587 Wii U Must Support An Equivalent of Direct X 11/Open GL 4.2

Posted by Caius Casshern Sins on 10 November 2011 - 03:16 PM

Why can't we just wait until e3 2012 to see the final design and then we will know...

Sure why not, that day will be the day a lot of us will be looking forward to.

#41400 Physical copies or downloads.

Posted by Caius Casshern Sins on 09 November 2011 - 09:42 AM

I do believe physical disc will be gone one day. Look at the VHS nobody sells them anymore. But it is not yet the time  for that to happen. Games are becoming bigger and not everyone have a fast internet connection. This is an issue, also there is the fact that people do not have enough space on hard drives to do that Downloads right now are good for smaller games but not yet feasible for full blown retail games for everybody, yet.

#41114 Legend of Zelda Symphony - Main Theme Medley [Download]

I watched it, it was a great video. The song sounded absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to hear the other songs that are on the CD when I get Skywards Sword. :)

#41108 Zelda 3DS Graphics

Posted by Feld0 on 07 November 2011 - 04:41 AM

I recall reading an interview somewhere (I think it was on Zelda Universe, but I can't remember anymore) where Miyamoto or Aonuma said that they'd like to establish the cel-shaded art style as "portable" and leave the realistic style for the "big" console outings. Of course, they won't lock themselves to it as a rule either way (Wind Waker was on the GameCube, and we had the semi-realistic Ocarina of Time make an appearance on the 3DS).

Personally, though, I'd expect the first "original" 3DS Zelda adventure to go cel-shaded - if only because the realistic style would have an infinitely better home on the Wii U.

if you were to take something like skyword sword and put it on the 3ds screen with 3d on... it would be close to jaw dropping.

Skyward Sword isn't jaw-dropping already? :o

Another thing I should mention is sound quality, as for Zelda the music plays a big roll for the series. So music will definitely sound better on a Television rather then those small speakers.

That's why I try to avoid playing on speakers whenever possible. When I put my noise-isolating headphones on, the outside world melts away and I find myself incredibly immersed in the (depth-filled 3D) game world. I get what you mean with the "big theatre" feeling, but with a good pair of headphones, a portable game can feel quite grand, too.
